Fox News Audio plans to roll out a 52-episode series titled The Life of Jesus Podcast on Nov. 30, 2025, under a new licensing deal with Gulfstream Studios. The project arrives with marquee names attached, including Kristen Bell as Mary Magdalene, Brian Cox as the voice of God, Malcolm McDowell as Caiaphas, and familiar voices like Sean Astin, Julia Ormond, and John Rhys-Davies.

Old Recordings, New Package

Soon after the announcement, representatives for several actors said they did not know their recordings would be reused. The audio in question was first produced about 15 years ago for The Truth & Life Dramatized Audio Bible, a separate project released around 2010.

Entertainment outlets also reported internal messages telling participants not to mention the age of the original material. That effort to present the show as a new production sparked fresh scrutiny and added to concerns from talent who say they were left out of the loop.

Dispute Centers on Consent, Not Licensing

Fox News says it licensed Gulfstream’s existing rights to the old recordings. The sticking point for many of the actors is the lack of direct notice and fresh consent before their voices were tied to a new, high-profile release.

Some actors have also kept their distance from Fox News in the past. That disconnect raises broader image concerns for both sides, especially now that their names are positioned alongside the network’s branding.

Questions for the Industry

This situation highlights a growing tension in the audio world. As podcasting expands and companies look to repurpose older content, talent protections have not always kept pace. Listeners may also question how much of a so-called new show is truly new, which can affect long-term trust.

The outcome here could influence future contracts and disclosure standards across the industry. Clear rules around how old recordings can be used would give both studios and performers a firmer footing.

What Comes Next

Key questions remain.

Will any of the actors pursue legal action? Will Fox News or Gulfstream choose to offer updated agreements? Will the controversy shape audience interest when the podcast launches?

The answers will signal whether this remains a contained dispute or becomes a turning point in how traditional media adapts to the podcast era.
