President Donald Trump used a late-night Thanksgiving post on Truth Social to outline what he called a sweeping “reverse migration” agenda, pledging to halt immigration from what he described as “Third World Countries” and to roll back Biden-era admissions in a national security push.
In the post, Trump said his administration would pause all migration from third world nations, revoke millions of admissions approved during the Biden administration — “including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen” — and begin removing foreign nationals he deems security risks, public charges, or “non-compatible with Western Civilization.” He argued the American immigration system has been “overwhelmed” and said the changes would allow it to “fully recover.”
Trump also vowed to block federal benefits for noncitizens, denaturalize migrants he says undermine “domestic tranquility,” and expand deportations nationwide.
Announcement Comes After Deadly Shooting Near White House
The remarks came just one day after two West Virginia National Guardsmen were shot near the White House in what officials have called a targeted attack. Streets in downtown Washington were placed on lockdown as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
One of the soldiers, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, died from her injuries, Trump confirmed on Thursday. The second service member, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, remains hospitalized and is “fighting for his life,” according to the president.
Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal. He remains in serious condition.
Lakanwal entered the United States in 2021 via Operation Allies Welcome, the Biden administration’s program to resettle Afghan nationals following his chaotic and widely criticized military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Trump Ends Post With Warning
Trump concluded his post with an unflinching holiday message: “Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”
The Thanksgiving announcement signals that the administration intends escalate its immigration policy in direct response to the attack, which has already intensified political and public scrutiny over vetting procedures and national security.
