White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles revealed that President Donald Trump is expected to return to the campaign trail in force for the 2026 midterm elections, saying he will “campaign like it’s 2024 again.” Wiles made the remarks during an interview on The Mom View, where she also discussed major upcoming national events, including the 250th anniversary of the United States, the 2026 Winter Olympics, and the FIFA World Cup.
“This is such a great time for him to be in office,” Wiles said during the interview. “He’s such a patriot. He loves it so much. He’s going to have a fun next year, but, we’re going to put him on the campaign trail, too.”
Wiles explained that midterm strategy typically emphasizes keeping federal figures in the background while localizing races. However, she said the administration intends to reverse that conventional approach. “In the midterms, it’s not about who’s sitting at the White House,” she said. “We’re actually going to turn that on its head. And, put him on the ballot because so many of those low propensity voters are Trump voters.”
She added that recent elections demonstrated the consequences of Trump not being visibly involved, saying the results from “a week ago Tuesday” highlighted what happens “when he’s not on the ballot and not active.” Wiles joked that she had not yet informed Trump of the extent of the upcoming campaign schedule, remarking, “He’s going to campaign like it’s 2024 again.”
Wiles’s comments come one week after Rep. Matt Van Epps (R-TN) won a special election in Tennessee’s 7th congressional district. Although the victory allowed Republicans to retain control of a reliably conservative seat, the Associated Press reported that the close race contributed to a “gloomy outlook” for the GOP heading into the 2026 midterms.
According to the AP, Republican strategist Jason Roe warned that the contest contained “danger signs” for the party, noting that Republicans “shouldn’t have had to spend that kind of money to hold that kind of seat.”
Wiles emphasized that Trump’s involvement remains a key advantage for candidates he supports. “For all these people he helps — he doesn’t help everybody, but for those he does, he’s a difference-maker, and he certainly is a turnout machine, so the midterms will be very important to us,” she said.
