Justice Department Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon publicly berated conservative influencers and MAGA supporters online after mounting criticism of the Trump administration and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Dhillon responded on X as critics accused the administration of failing to aggressively investigate and prosecute alleged election fraud, Obama-era and Biden-era lawfare, and large-scale welfare fraud uncovered in Minnesota. Several online commentators argued that the Justice Department had moved too slowly—or not at all—on accountability for officials involved in what they describe as the weaponization of government against conservatives.
“‘Conservative’ influencers, if you think you are ‘keeping the pressure on’ or ‘winning’ by spreading bulls**t attacks on @realDonaldTrump’s hand-picked cabinet, you are NOT. You are earning money to spread misinformation. You are hoes. Learn an honest profession!” Dhillon wrote.
The remarks drew swift backlash from some users who said Dhillon was dismissing legitimate concerns. One X user, Will Pope, claimed Dhillon blocked him after he criticized the DOJ for what he described as inaction related to January 6 prosecutions.
“Harmeet, who was following me, is now blocking me for asking why the DOJ is still employing the worst January 6 prosecutors and doing nothing to bring accountability for the weaponization of government against J6ers,” Pope wrote. “This DOJ has zero wins unless you count knitting hats.”
According to a July report from the Stanford Law Review, the Trump Justice Department has already taken personnel actions related to January 6 cases, noting that “approximately eighteen January 6 prosecutors were fired” and “at least seven senior January 6 prosecutors were demoted.”
Dhillon also addressed calls to immediately prosecute figures such as former special counsel Jack Smith, arguing that statutes of limitations remain open and that timing matters in complex investigations.
“Jan 6 committee in Congress forms in the summer. This is a relevant date (SOL mid 2026 potentially) * Jack Smith appointed over a year later as special counsel in November … statute runs on his obvious shenanigans late 2027 * Democrats in Congress and those in the states colluding with Biden WH hide their behavior, some of which STILLL HASN’T come to light!” Dhillon wrote, adding that statutes of limitations may extend years beyond when concealed conduct is uncovered.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Pam Bondi signaled that broader legal action may be forthcoming. In an interview, Bondi said she has directed prosecutors to investigate Obama-era and Biden-era lawfare as an ongoing conspiracy that allegedly violated the civil rights of President Donald Trump and his supporters while shielding Democrats from scrutiny.
“At my direction, our U.S. Attorneys and federal agents are actively investigating instances of government weaponization nationwide,” Bondi said. “This is a ten-year stain on the country committed by high-ranking officials against the American people.”
Bondi indicated that treating the alleged misconduct as an ongoing conspiracy could allow prosecutors to bring charges outside normal statutes of limitations, similar to cases involving organized crime networks.
The exchange highlights growing tensions within the conservative movement, as segments of the MAGA base increasingly clash with administration officials over pace, priorities, and expectations for accountability during Trump’s second term.
