A Democratic congressional campaign in New York just got hit with fresh controversy.
Susan Chatzky — the wife of Democrat Peter Chatzky — is drawing scrutiny after old Facebook posts resurfaced showing her mocking the Bible and reacting positively to a joke about President Donald Trump’s death, according to reporting from the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF).
Peter Chatzky, a wealthy tech executive and deputy mayor in Westchester County, is running to unseat Republican Rep. Mike Lawler in New York’s 17th Congressional District — a race national groups are watching closely.
One resurfaced post from December 2021 included a profanity-laced attack on Christianity: “I really, really, really don’t care about your f***ing stupid Bible. It’s a book. Should we live our lives according to Nancy Drew?”
Then, in August 2025, Susan Chatzky reportedly “hearted” a comment joking about Trump’s hypothetical “demise.”
As DCNF noted, the NRCC criticized the posts as inflammatory and said they reflect poorly on the campaign, particularly in a high-stakes battleground race:
“Radical Democrat Peter Chatzky and his wife are despicable,” NRCC spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole said. “They unabashedly support using hateful, discriminatory rhetoric and violence to get what they want. That is no way to lead, and Chatzky is unfit to serve the Hudson Valley in Congress.”
In October 2015, Susan Chatzky posted a graphic purportedly showing the number of mass shootings that year through September. In an exchange in the comments lamenting several shootings that day, she called for more drastic measures.
“I hate to say this, but I think we need to deport white men in their 20’s. Or put them in internment camps,” Chatzky said. “I’ll really miss my sons.”
When another account expressed alarm at Chatzky’s proposal and said her broad generalizations of white people could lead to stereotypes of black men, Chatzky backtracked and claimed she was joking.
“I’m just tired of people being so afraid of people of color,” Chatzky reportedly followed up. “I was trying to point out how ridiculous that is. That stupid mom who wouldn’t let her son learn about Islam really got to me this week.”
Chatzky’s campaign has not responded to the posts in detail, pointing instead to the unity-and-compassion themes highlighted during his launch.
Susan and I are a team that cares for our community. We will bring that care to Congress. pic.twitter.com/Ph5bNz8N3H
