President Donald Trump said Monday that he spoke by phone with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and described the exchange as a “very good call,” with both leaders on a “similar wavelength” regarding disorder in the state.
The call comes as federal, state, and local officials seek to manage ongoing unrest in Minneapolis and broader Minnesota tied to federal immigration enforcement efforts and recent violent incidents, including the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis resident by Border Patrol agents. Trump said Walz requested coordination and that federal assistance, including law enforcement support, is being aligned to help state efforts. The president framed the discussion as constructive and suggested that both sides found common ground.
The Hill continues:
“Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota. It was a very good call, and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession. The Governor, very respectfully, understood that, and I will be speaking to him in the near future,” he continued, reiterating a request made on the social media platform a day before.
The message from Trump is a significant shift after days of administration officials repeatedly blaming Walz for protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
It also comes as tensions have reached a breaking point in Minnesota following the release of a video on Saturday that showed an immigration agent shooting demonstrator Alex Pretti in the back after an altercation in which Pretti, filming the officers, sought to help a woman being pepper-sprayed before he was also pepper-sprayed.
Walz, a Democrat, had been publicly critical of federal immigration enforcement operations, calling for a scaling back of deployments in the face of protests and concerns over public safety. Federal officials have defended their actions and emphasized enforcement of immigration laws. (RELATED: Democratic PAC Goes Dark After Using Alex Pretti For Fundraising)
Monday’s remarks signaled a noticeable thaw after recent tensions between the president and the governor, even as deeper policy disagreements appear far from resolved.

The more Trump makes it look like Walz is kissing his backside, the more hate it will inspire from the left, and of course they will eat Walz in the interim. Well played Trump, well played!
