Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
The decision follows weeks of resistance and mounting pressure from committee Republicans, including the prospect of criminal contempt of Congress votes.
The Hill continues:
The news marks a stunning about-face that came after months of negotiations and as the House Rules Committee was preparing to tee up floor votes on potentially holding the two in contempt of Congress. The House Oversight Committee voted last month to advance the contempt resolutions.
“They negotiated in good faith. You did not. They told you under oath what they know, but you don’t care,” Clinton spokesperson Angel Ureña wrote on the social platform X in response to a post from Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.). “But the former President and former Secretary of State will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.”
Comer appeared to learn the news in real time during the Rules Committee meeting on Monday.
The moment got heated, with Democrats demanding to know whether the panel would move forward with the contempt resolution and Comer responding that he hadn’t yet seen the letter from the Clintons’ lawyers and would need to review it.
The agreement comes just days before the full House was expected to consider contempt resolutions against the Clintons for defying earlier subpoenas.
The former president and former secretary of state had previously challenged the subpoenas as legally invalid and politically motivated, arguing they were not tied to a legitimate legislative purpose. They initially refused to comply with deposition requests.
Comer has insisted that both appear in person under oath, rejecting more limited alternatives the Clintons had proposed.
In earlier committee action, several Democrats joined Republicans in advancing contempt measures, highlighting bipartisan pressure for greater transparency in the committee’s Epstein-related investigation.

Once again the democrats outmaneuver republicans. There is no justice in America unless the Clintons get the same treatment Bannon and Navarro got. The Clintons will lie and “not remember” their way right thru questioning by politicians. They need to be interrogated by real investigators and cross examined by real prosecutors.
I can’t imagine anything these two would say would be anything resembling the truth about anything.
Quit letting the Clintons and democrats play you. They violated the law when ignoring subpoena’s. Charge them. They need to be interrogated by professionals not by 5 minute questioning by politicians. Then they need to be cross examined by professional prosecutors. Republicans act like they are afraid to enforce our laws.
After all is said and done the Clintons will walk free.
