A 23-year-old British woman was shot and killed by her father while visiting him in Prosper, Texas, on Jan. 10, 2025, following an argument earlier in the day about U.S. politics and gun ownership, according to testimony presented at an inquest in England.
Lucy Harrison, of Warrington, Cheshire, had traveled to Texas with her boyfriend, Sam Littler, to visit her father, Kris Harrison. The inquest at Cheshire Coroner’s Court heard that the father and daughter had a “big argument” that morning concerning President Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration and issues surrounding gun ownership, leaving her visibly upset.
Later that day — roughly 30 minutes before she was scheduled to return to the United Kingdom — Kris Harrison led his daughter into his bedroom to show her a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun, according to his statement.
He told authorities the firearm discharged as he lifted it to show her, striking her in the chest. He said he did not realize his finger was on the trigger.
Lucy Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Legal Status
Texas authorities initially investigated the shooting as a possible manslaughter case. However, a Collin County grand jury declined to indict Kris Harrison.
According to reporting by The New York Post, Austin criminal defense attorney Lindsay Richards outlined why she believes Harrison was not indicted on manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide charges:
“I honestly believe that the fact that he was not indicted and has not had any consequences for doing this is symptomatic of a very conservative county in Texas,” said Richards, a former prosecutor and partner at the law firm Coker and Connelly.
“The only thing we can boil this down to is looking at our political climate. A conservative county in Texas, and this was the result,” she said.
She said sympathy for gun mishaps and the politically charged nature of the case, including that it centered around Trump, likely played a role in the jury’s decision not to indict Harrison.
Richards said criminally negligent homicide — which would require prosecutors to show Harrison failed to see a substantial risk that a reasonable person would have seen — is a “proper potential charge” for him.
“I also think it should be noted … that he had been drinking that day as well. So that’s another element to this that I cannot believe was not considered in his criminal negligence. That’s obvious,” she continued.
Despite the U.S. grand jury declining to indict, Senior Coroner Jacqueline Devonish, presiding over the Cheshire Coroner’s Court, concluded that Lucy Harrison was unlawfully killed.
Per FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth:
The British coroner’s conclusion of unlawful killing is different from the father’s statement that the discharge was accidental.
The record of the inquest noted the weapon was pointed in her direction at chest height when it fired. The Collin County Medical Examiner autopsy report showed she died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and the death is listed as a homicide.
The Prosper Police Department assisted in the cross-border investigation, providing statements and evidence to the British court. While the inquest is now formally closed, the “unlawful killing” verdict carries significant weight in British law, though any further criminal proceedings would be handled by Texas authorities.
Additional Testimony
Harrison’s boyfriend testified at the inquest that she often became distressed when discussions involved gun ownership and U.S. political issues, including Trump.
Kris Harrison acknowledged he had struggled with alcohol in the past and said he had consumed wine on the day of the shooting.

I am a ‘pro-Trumper’ ( on most of his actions ), but there are a few unalterable rules concerning guns.
Such as:
Never point a gun at anything that isn’t to be shot!
Don’t ever touch a gun when not COMPLETELY sober!
Don’t ever put a finger inside the trigger guard until ready to shoot!
Don’t ever play with a gun. It is NOT a toy!
And if a person is shot, the person who had possession of the gun IS totally responsible!
Enough ‘said’.
Agree 1000%
Trumps you should stop the Carpetbagging. We know when the dust settles you all will return to New York as surely as you visit Florida on those nasty winter days up North. So please stop supporting an even bigger Carpetbagger, who is the shill for a couple of wealthy RINOs who felt we need a black Governor of Florida to prove Republicans are not racist. Give me a Break. Of all the Congress members from Florida, he is the dumbest of the bunch and that includes even the Democrat members from Florida. He is photo bombing, publicity hound who only echoes ideas he hears elsewhere after he realizes they are popular positions. Sorry, but the worst Democrat is better than BD and the Trumps need to reconsider their support for such a loser.
