The British government will not grant the United States permission to use U.K. military bases for potential strikes against Iran, according to a report in The Times. That includes RAF Fairford in England and Diego Garcia, the remote but strategically critical base in the Indian Ocean.
Under existing agreements, U.S. forces may use British territory only for specific military operations if London approves in advance. There is no blanket approval. Each operation requires consent.
For the time being, at least, that consent has not been granted.
Legal concerns in London
British officials are said to be weighing the legal risks of allowing U.S. forces to launch offensive operations against Iran from U.K.-controlled bases. The concern is straightforward. If there is no clear case of self-defense, approving such operations could violate U.K. and international law.
Even indirect involvement carries risk, The Times writes. Permitting the use of bases for offensive strikes could expose Britain to claims that it was complicit in hostilities. That is not a line the current government appears eager to cross.
The hesitation is not new. In mid-2025, during Operation Midnight Hammer, the U.S. carried out strikes against Iranian targets linked to the country’s nuclear program. British officials were briefed in advance. However, the U.S. did not request to use Diego Garcia or other RAF installations as launch points. U.K. officials stated this was likely because such a request would have required a formal legal assessment of the attack’s compliance with international law.
Trump applies pressure
President Trump has publicly criticized the U.K.’s reluctance. In a social media post on Wednesday, he warned Britain not to relinquish control of Diego Garcia and stressed the base’s strategic importance if the United States chooses to act against Iran.
Diego Garcia sits at a key crossroads in the Indian Ocean. It has long served as a hub for U.S. air and naval operations in the Middle East and South Asia. In past conflicts, it has been central to long-range strike planning and logistics.
The U.S.-U.K. military relationship remains close. Intelligence sharing and joint operations continue across multiple theaters. But when it comes to direct offensive action against Iran, London is drawing a line.

As the UK becomes more and more Islamic.
UK is REALLY concerned BECAUSE THEY HAVE TOO MANY MUSLIMS in the country, WHO MIGHT RIOT!! They are already claiming areas as Muslim.
It is getting more and more embarrassing to have English blood running through my veins. Their argument is that a strike on Iran is offensive and not defensive? How many threats does it take from Iran that their goal is to annihilate Israel and the United States before a strike on Iran would be considered defensive? Is the UK willing to sit idly by while Iran acquires a nuclear weapon, capable of making their threats against Israel, the United States and even the entire West reality? I find it sad to see what England has become.
Thats ok. we just will not rescure them again in the next world war which is coming and being pushed by the NWO and extremely wealthy as a way to trip down the polulation so they have more control. We are not the agressor, we are the defender. If they don’t wnat it so be it, to it alone. Just don’t expect any help from now on. We can and and have the ability to do what we do off of US soil.
