A mysterious boom rattled homes across the Houston area Saturday — and one Texas family says it may have ended in their living room.
Residents flooded social media after hearing what they described as a loud explosion. The Brenham Fire Department confirmed it responded to reports of a possible blast near Highway 50, but crews found no clear source.
What they did find were striking witness accounts.
Several people reported seeing a “green flash fall from the sky, black smoke, and heard a loud ‘boom,’” according to fire officials. Some suggested the noise may have been caused by a “possible meteor.”
That theory gained traction when Sherrie James contacted FOX 26 and the Ponderosa Fire Department with a startling claim: an “unusual rock” had crashed straight through her roof.

Photos show a football-sized black rock that appears to have broken off from a larger mass, leaving a gaping hole in both her ceiling and floor. With no nearby construction or trees to explain the damage, fire officials told FOX 26 the object was likely tied to the suspected meteor.

The American Meteor Society has since logged the incident as a “fireball event” over Texas, receiving more than 100 reports. Witnesses say the streak across the sky lasted between 1.5 and 7.5 seconds — though experts have not yet officially confirmed the event.
For now, what caused the boom remains unverified. But for one Texas family, the evidence may be sitting right inside their home
