Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

U.S. special operations forces have rescued the second crew member of a downed F-15E fighter jet inside Iran, concluding a high-risk, multi-day search-and-rescue mission that unfolded behind enemy lines.

The airman, identified as a weapons systems officer, had been missing for roughly two days after the aircraft was shot down over Iranian territory amid the ongoing U.S.-Iran war.

High-risk rescue deep inside Iran

The operation involved a coordinated effort between U.S. military forces and intelligence agencies, including a deception campaign designed to mislead Iranian forces searching for the downed airman.

Rescue teams deployed multiple aircraft, including transport planes and helicopters, and came under ground fire during the mission, underscoring the risks of operating in hostile territory.

Reports indicate that U.S. forces engaged in firefights with Iranian or proxy forces and destroyed equipment on the ground to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.

Despite the intensity of the operation, all U.S. personnel involved in the rescue were safely extracted.

Two crew members, both recovered

The F-15E aircraft, which carries a two-person crew, was shot down by Iranian forces earlier in the week — marking a significant escalation in the conflict and the first confirmed loss of a U.S. fighter jet in the war.

The pilot was rescued shortly after ejecting, while the second crew member remained stranded in mountainous terrain as Iranian forces attempted to locate him.

Officials said both crew members were able to communicate after ejecting, aiding rescue efforts.

Trump praises operation

President Donald Trump confirmed the successful rescue early Sunday, writing that the airman was “SAFE and SOUND” and describing the mission as:

“one of the most daring search and rescue operations in U.S. history.”

Trump said the rescued airman was injured but expected to recover and emphasized that no Americans were killed during the mission.

Broader implications

The incident highlights the growing intensity of U.S. military operations inside Iran and raises new questions about air superiority in the region after multiple aircraft were reportedly hit by Iranian fire.

The rescue also represents a rare and complex combat search-and-rescue mission conducted deep inside hostile territory, involving both conventional forces and intelligence assets in real time.

With both crew members now recovered, the immediate crisis has ended, but the episode underscores the risks facing U.S. personnel as the conflict continues to escalate.

It’s a ‘police action’ ( actually a relatively small war ) that most certainly WILL have some losses on our side ( remember 1950s Korea? ).
The Russians surely have given Iran a bunch of hand-held anti-aircraft weapons!
It’s gonna happen! And we are going to have to destroy, as best we can, their ability to attack our ‘planes.
But this is combat and we are NOT going to be totally immune to losses on our side too.
But it’s nothing compared to what they are getting from us. Not even close!
Iran can talk tough, as they continually do, but they are getting far worse losses from us than we will ever get from them ( as long as they are kept from developing ‘nukes’ and long-range missiles ).
Some Americans, and other countries people, can and will yell and cry about OUR losses, but people in the military ( I was one in the 1960s in Vietnam … Marine Corp. And, yes. I was injured ) know the danger that they must face.
We went into the military knowing what could happen, but we did it anyway! That was our job! We accepted it!
That’s the price of freedom. Freedom is NOT free!
If Iran ever gets nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, we WILL be their next target … here in the United States!
Then the libs will REALLY have something to cry about!
