U.S. Secret Service agents detained a man Thursday morning after he attempted to breach the White House perimeter on foot, leaving an officer injured during the confrontation.
Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. EDT, when the man jumped over a construction bollard near the Treasury Building on the northeast side of the presidential complex in Washington.
“Officers encountered the individual near a pedestrian gate, where he engaged in a physical altercation before being taken into custody,” Guglielmi said in a statement provided to NewsNation.
Guglielmi added that an officer “sustained a laceration” during the encounter. Both the injured agent and the suspect were evaluated for minor injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity.
The incident follows a similar breach last month, when a man drove a van through a barricade near the White House in the early morning hours of March 11. Christopher Cavanaugh, a 35-year-old from Ohio, was charged with unlawful entry and destruction of property after the crash, WUSA9 reported.
Cavanaugh was wearing a shirt in support of President Trump at the time and told Secret Service agents during questioning that he had come to the White House to “deliver a present,” according to the outlet.
In another incident last October, a man was taken into custody after driving his vehicle into a White House security gate on the northeast perimeter. He was “immediately” apprehended by Secret Service officers.

The White House IS the property of the citizens of America.
But that does, in no way, give anyone the right to illegally intrude into the ‘compound’.
The security of the president and his staff is of far more importance.
There are tours of this place. Go into the White House that way and there will be no consequences.
Attack the White House in any manner and the consequences WILL be major, as they should be!
