President Joe Biden has finished meeting with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas, demonstrating his commitment to reverse lingering Trump-era policies.
Abbas and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) were outraged in 2018 when then-President Donald Trump froze Palestinian aid.
At the time, the PLO claimed that the United States had violated its financial obligations.
While Biden has been slow to reverse Trump’s foreign policy in the eyes of Palestinian leaders, he has publicly sided with the PLO over Trump on his predecessor’s decision to cut U.S. taxpayer-funded foreign aid.
The Associated Press noted that rockets began landing on Israel weeks later.
Following today’s meeting with Abbas, Biden reaffirmed his support for a two-state solution.
As NBC News reports:
Biden said he would work to “reinvigorate” the peace process, though earlier in the week he acknowledged that he didn’t see a two-state solution as something that would be achieved in the “near term.”
He announced a number of new initiatives around improving health care, expanding 4G digital access in Gaza and the occupied West Bank by the end of 2023, along with other measures aimed at spurring economic growth, assisting Palestinian refugees and reducing food insecurity.
“The key to peace and security in our region begins with recognizing the state of Palestine and enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights,” Abbas said following the meeting.
“I take this opportunity, on the occasion of the visit of your excellency to the region, to say that I extend my hand to the leaders of Israel to make peace,” he said.

Bad move Biden, gonna, enrage Israel Big time & dont mess with Abhram Accords
I know I’m stating the obvious, but everything Basement Biden has done – & probably will do – is a bad move.
Unbelievable! And there are still foolish people out there who think old Joe & his regime have our best interests at heart. Wake up America before it’s too late.
Biden fxxxing with middle east will not end well.Joe Biden President, loves this Country so much he does not want to see his fellow Americans hurting over high gasoline cost, high energy cost, shortages, have decided to take the risk of our Nations National Security and use our National Reserve oil to lower gas prices at the pump. Mr. President, Hunter is on the line, say what, will have to ship that oil to China instead, what about your promise to the American people. The world would like an answer to that question.
As I recall, Obama did everything he could to stir things up and destabilize the Middle East.
Looks like Biden hates the idea of a peaceful Middle East as much as Obama did.
The US owes Palestinians NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They’re Arab, so let the billionaire oil Sheiks take care of their won spawn. Why should we give a flying fk about a bunch of terrorist mother fkers who elect hamas to represent them?
Let us begin with “Palestine”. WHAT is their “language”, “Culture” , “Foods” , “Music” , Clothing” , and just how long has “Palestine” been around? Please note , The Romans gave the areas or lands , they OCCUPIED as “Palestine”. SO , where is “Palestine” ? No where. It existed as a name given by the ROMAN OCCUPIERS. The so called “Palistinians” are ARABIC.
