Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

The Pentagon announced Tuesday that the estimated cost of the ongoing war in Iran has risen to nearly $30 billion, marking another increase in military spending tied to the conflict.

During testimony before Congress, Department of War Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer Jules W. Hurst III said the total estimated cost of the war had reached approximately $29 billion.

Hurst told lawmakers the rising figure was driven by “updated repair and replacement of equipment cost and also just general operational cost.”

The updated estimate represents a significant increase from the Pentagon’s previous projection released April 29, when officials estimated the war had cost roughly $25 billion, according to Reuters.

Hurst referenced that earlier estimate during Tuesday’s hearing, noting that “at the time of testimony… it was $25 billion dollars,” referring to figures previously provided by War Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The testimony took place during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on the Pentagon’s fiscal year 2027 budget request, where Hurst appeared alongside Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine.

Despite the Pentagon’s official estimate, some reports suggest the real cost of the conflict may be substantially higher. CBS News reported in April that internal government assessments from anonymous American officials projected the total cost is closer to $50 billion.

The Pentagon requested $200 billion from Congress in March to fund military operations related to the war.

The escalating costs come as the fallout increasingly impacts the broader American economy. New inflation data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed consumer prices rising at an annual rate of 3.8% in April, the highest increase recorded since May 2023.

Energy prices have also surged amid instability tied to the conflict. According to the American Automobile Association, the national average gas price exceeded $4.50 per gallon Tuesday.

Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders blamed the conflict for rising fuel prices in a post on X, writing that if Americans “want to bring gas prices down below $3 a gallon we must demand that Trump ends this disastrous, unconstitutional and unprovoked war NOW.”

Public frustration over inflation and economic conditions appears to be growing as the conflict continues.

A new CNN/SSRS poll released Tuesday found that 77% of Americans — including a majority of Republican voters — believe President Donald Trump’s policies have increased the cost of living in their communities during his second term.

The survey also found that roughly two-thirds of respondents said Trump’s policies have worsened the national economy.

Approval ratings tied specifically to inflation and fuel prices were particularly low in the poll. Just 26% of Americans said they approved of Trump’s handling of inflation, while only 21% approved of his performance on gas prices.

The mounting financial costs of the Iran conflict are increasingly creating political challenges for the administration and congressional Republicans, many of whom campaigned heavily on lowering inflation and reducing everyday living expenses for American families.

As military spending continues to rise and economic pressures intensify, the war is becoming one of the defining political and economic issues facing Washington ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Pay now or pay dearly later! How would World War II have ended if every month or two, FDR and his Generals were distracted by their anti American Political Enemies? But then, most of the younger impressionable little dwebs are so uneducated they don’t know who we had to beat to save America in 1945. It was Communism and Fascism, the same thing you geniuses are rioting on behalf of today. How pathetic, the Dems have destroyed the younger generations by stealing from our country, monies that should have been reserved for educating our younger generations. At the rate we are going, I bet the USA doesn’t last another ten years. WAKE THE F… UP or Kiss your asses goodbye.
