Rep. Tom Kean Jr.’s prolonged disappearance from Congress is now raising questions about his wife’s absence too.
The mystery surrounding missing Republican Congressman Tom Kean Jr. deepened this week after neighbors reported that his wife, Rhonda Kean, had also largely vanished from public view as questions continue swirling around the congressman’s prolonged absence from Washington.
Neighbors in Westfield, New Jersey, said Kean’s home has appeared largely dormant for weeks. Residents told reporters they had not seen Rhonda Kean walking the family dog, parking her car outside the house, or appearing regularly in the neighborhood.
The only confirmed recent sighting occurred when Rhonda Kean briefly returned home during trash pickup and declined to comment when approached by reporters. “No comment,” she reportedly said before quickly going inside.
Kean has now missed roughly 88 House roll-call votes since March 5 while citing only a vague “personal medical issue.” Despite mounting speculation, neither Kean nor his office has disclosed the nature of the illness or where he is recovering.
The situation has become increasingly uncomfortable for Republicans because Kean represents New Jersey’s highly competitive 7th Congressional District, one of Democrats’ top pickup opportunities heading into the 2026 midterms. GOP strategists have reportedly grown frustrated with the lack of transparency surrounding the congressman’s condition and prolonged absence.
Even Mike Johnson admitted this week that he does not know the full details of Kean’s medical condition. “I don’t even know the details,” Johnson told reporters while insisting Kean had assured him he expects to return soon.
The mystery has only intensified because Kean’s congressional office and campaign have continued operating normally online. Staff members have posted dozens of social media updates written in the first person, issued newsletters in Kean’s voice, and attended public events under the “Team Kean” banner despite the congressman remaining entirely out of public sight.
Financial disclosures filed during his absence also showed Kean continued trading stocks between March and April with transactions valued between roughly $50,000 and $190,000.
Kean finally broke his silence this week in a brief phone interview, saying doctors expect him to make a “full recovery” and insisting there will be no long-term cognitive effects from his illness. However, he again declined to reveal any specifics about his condition or explain his months-long disappearance.

THE HEADLINE KIND OF WRITES ITSELF !?
His “disappearance”, along with a number of absences from Congress should make it essential that we get the Constitutional Convention underway quickly and set up term limits and age limits for Congress. They will never do it themselves. Anybody who missed 88 votes, should be immediately ousted, no questions. These people make the decision to serve. and terms of service should be no different than working at any other job. If they had to live under these rules, maybe they would think twice before running for office at all. People have to swear to serve ALL the people, in spite of their own beliefs and opinions. They are there to communicate the votes of the majority of their constituents, without discrimination. They must also agree to not seek any other source of income while serving. If they can’t agree to this, they should grab an office job and save the people this sufferance.
