Taxpayer Dollars Flow Again To Planned Parenthood

Taxpayer funds are flowing once again to the national abortion chain Planned Parenthood, and pro-life leaders are calling on Congress to cut it off as President Donald Trump calls on them to directly funds abortions with tax dollars.

“On July 4, the landmark 2025 provision of the Working Families Tax Cuts that defunded Big Abortion [expired,] allowing Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses to once again receive taxpayer dollars through Medicaid,” the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America reports, adding it “is urging lawmakers to do all within their power to renew the defunding provision immediately.”

“According to new research from the Charlottle Lozier Institute, 11 states have increased funding to Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses since the One Big Beautiful Bill Working Families Tax Cuts was signed: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Washington. Collectively, these states represent a total of at least $202.5 million in supplemental funding for Planned Parenthood or similar abortion businesses,” SBA Pro-Life America reports.

“Thanks to Majority Leader Thune, Speaker Mike Johnson, and our pro-life majority in Congress we saw a historic victory last year when taxpayers were no longer forced to prop up an industry that profits from killing babies in the womb. Now this hard-won progress stands on the brink of reversal. On our nation’s 250th anniversary when we celebrate the self-evident truth that all men are created equal with the unalienable right to life, our taxpayer dollars will once again flow to abortion businesses that profit from the destruction of nearly half a million unborn children every year,” SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser stated.

“Defunding Big Abortion is now the default expectation of the pro-life movement. When they return to D.C., Republicans must do all they can through reconciliation to once again block taxpayer dollars from Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses,” Dannenfelser added.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America notes it “sent letters to both U.S. Senate Republicans and members of the House of Representatives in June urging them to stay committed to passing a reconciliation bill that keeps taxpayer dollars out of the hands of Big Abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood. The letters site more research from the Charlotte Lozier Institute showing community health centers that serve Americans on Medicaid outnumber Planned Parenthoods 15:1 and provide more comprehensive care.”

“According to its own latest report, Planned Parenthood performed a record 434,450 abortions last year, selling women seeking pregnancy help an abortion 97% of the time,” SBA Pro-Life America notes.

But the calls from conservatives to stop tax-funding Planned Parenthood come amid moves from President Donald Trump to expand abortion nationwide.

Not only did the Trump administration approve the sale of cheaper, generic abortion drugs, both Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance endorsed making the abortion pill available nationwide.

Despite many states passing laws banning abortion, abortion deaths in America are hitting record highs as the Trump administration allows the U.S. Postal Service to mail abortion pills into states where they are banned, even without a prescription or medical supervision.

Trump has even called on Republicans to be “flexible” on abortion and overturn a five-decade old federal ban on directly tax-funding abortions in order to expand federal spending on Obamacare subsidies.

The Associate Press reports:

President Donald Trump said Tuesday [Jan. 6] he wants Republicans to reach a deal on health care insurance assistance by being willing to bend on a 50-year-old budget policy that bars federal money from being spent on abortion services.

“You have to be a little flexible” on the Hyde Amendment, Trump told House Republicans as they gathered in Washington for a caucus retreat to open the midterm election year. “You gotta be a little flexible. You gotta work something. You gotta use ingenuity.”

With his suggestion, Trump, who supported abortion rights before he entered politics in 2015, is asking conservatives to abandon or at least ease up on decades of Republican orthodoxy on abortion and spending policy — something lawmakers and conservatives pushed back on immediately.
