“The View” co-host Joy Behar is being criticized today after proclaiming that the Trump-voting town of East Palestine, Ohio got the ecological disaster it deserved by supporting “America First” policies.
Behar’s remarks came on national television, leaving even the audience of “The View” surprised.

“I don’t know why they would ever vote for him, somebody who, by the way, he placed someone with deep ties to the chemical industry in charge of the EPA’s chemical safety office. That’s who you voted for in that district, Donald Trump, who reduces all safety,” Behar said while pointing at the camera.
Behar also said East Palestine residents need to “look past the photo ops,” referring to Trump’s visit to the town on Wednesday, and see “who is doing the job here.”
Co-hosts Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that “showing up” is a big deal for the East Palestine community.
Co-host Sunny Hostin concluded at the end of the segment that it was Trump’s fault.

In 2018, the Trump administration repealed a 2015 rule requiring trains carrying hazardous materials to use electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brakes. The decision followed a congressionally mandated analysis by the Department of Transportation’s Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). PHMSA concluded that the expected benefits didn’t exceed the costs of equipping tank cars with high-tech brakes.
The Lever adds that the Biden administration has no plans to reinstate the Obama-era rule. Indeed, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is considering a proposal that may weaken safety rules. The revelation led the investigative journalism website to declare, “there will be more derailments.”
