A Republican has officially entered the race for Michigan’s soon-to-be-open House seat.
Tom Barrett (R) filed to run with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) on Friday. Barrett is running for the seat being left by Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) who is running for Senate.
Barrett ran against Slotkin last cycle but lost to the Michigan Democrat by 5 points, according to The Hill.
Tom Barrett came within 6 points of beating Elissa Slotkin in the most expensive House race in the country last year. Now that the seat is open, he’s back for another go https://t.co/CGiuoOE0Po

The seat is rated as a “toss up” by the nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report, making the seat one of Republicans’ best pickup opportunities.
