The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) raised serious concerns Thursday regarding the portrayal of Hunter Biden’s now infamous – and illegal – handgun purchase by Democrat Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland’s 8th District. The Committee – chaired by prominent gun rights defender Alan Gottlieb – believes that Congressman Raskin has egregiously mischaracterized the situation, alleging that Biden was a “rich individual exercising his Second Amendment rights” while purportedly failing to disclose his history of drug use on the federal Form 4473 during the purchase process.
“I’m not sure whether to shake my head in disgust or just laugh out loud,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb in a media release issued by his organization Thursday. “Raskin’s flippant dismissal of what would otherwise be a serious criminal act if anybody other than Hunter Biden were involved is either a new low in attempted sarcasm, or an exhibition of monumental stupidity.”
The president’s son agreed to a “sweetheart” plea deal last month which means that he gets to keep his Second Amendment rights despite entering false information on a Form 4473 – something that would normally result in felony charges, prison, and a loss of one’s gun rights.

Gottlieb also shared the following thoughts in his organization’s statement about Rep. Raskin’s remarks:
“Jamie Raskin needs to understand something about federal gun laws. Typical rich guys exercising their Second Amendment rights don’t get stoned on drugs before they go gun shopping. Rich guys buying guns don’t lie on Form 4473 and expect to get away with it. Rich guys don’t allow their girlfriends to toss handguns into dumpsters located near public schools. Rich guys, and even poor guys, don’t get special treatment from federal prosecutors regarding gun-related crimes unless their last name is Biden and their dad is president. The Hunter Biden case is a deplorable example of dual standard justice.”
Raskin is the Ranking Member on the Oversight Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.
