ANALYSIS – Only an administration as shameless as this one would create a ‘Homeland Intelligence Experts Group’ consisting of senior former Intelligence Community (IC) officials who signed the infamously partisan 2020 letter falsely claiming the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation.
At least three top members of the new group formed by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas helped suppress the laptop story in the final weeks preceding the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as I wrote about here and here.
Appointing any of these partisan hacks to any position within the administration or to any official advisory group is an insult and affront to all Americans who value integrity. And Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., who sits on the Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, agrees.
He sent a letter Thursday to Mayorkas demanding the termination of the newly created group.
Fox News reported on Hawley’s letter:
“As you know, John Brennan, James Clapper, and Paul Kolbe all signed onto the infamous October 2020 letter, which falsely declared the Hunter Biden laptop story to be ‘Russian misinformation,’ Hawley wrote in the letter, first obtained by Fox News Digital. “This was a clear attempt to aid then-candidate Joe Biden. Recent investigations have revealed text messages and emails that corroborate the corrupt intent behind the letter’s publication.”
He added, “It is therefore baffling that your Department would regard these individuals as having any remaining credibility with respect to intelligence matters.”
In a statement by DHS announcing its launch, the department claimed that the group’s 17 members includes “a wide range of views and perspectives, with a membership that includes former senior intelligence officials, journalists, and prominent human rights and civil liberties advocates.
The group is expected “to meet four times a year providing input on “terrorism, fentanyl, transborder issues, and emerging technology.”
But as Fox News explained:
Former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA senior operations officer Paul Kolbe — all part of the 17-member group — signed an open letter in October 2020 claiming the now-infamous Hunter Biden laptop story, first reported by the New York Post, “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” The letter was signed by 51 former intelligence officials…
“Enlisting the support of these discredited officials as the nation prepares for the 2024 presidential election appears to signal that DHS will continue its attempts to censor speech that is inconvenient to the current Administration,” Hawley wrote.
Hawley reportedly wants DHS to turn over all records related to the intel group’s formation, including meeting minutes, legal reviews of its constitutionality, records of recruited individuals and any communications with the White House regarding the group.
He set a deadline of October 15 for DHS to provide these materials to the committee.
Hawley joins other House GOP lawmakers who also sent a letter to Mayorkas last week. Members of the Committee on Homeland Security wrote, “Your decision to appoint members to this group who have demonstrated political bias suggests misplaced priorities.”
To me, it shows a lot more than that.
It shows a blatant disregard for the American people, and continued willingness by Team Biden to politicize intelligence and weaponize the federal government.

Deny security clearances to the 51 alone minimum
Senator Hawley is absolutely correct in his observations and statement about these three traitors to America; especially Brennan and Clapper. Both are commuist sympathizers.
We’ve known for a long time that at least two of the three are partisan and corrupt and will do anything at all to help democrats and prevent a Republican from returning to the White House.
Any information that comes from this new “Homeland Intelligence Experts Group” should be assumed to be designed to assist Biden and should be treated as the direct opposite of the truth.
I am wondering if a department head has the migated authority to form a committee such as this. Are advisory salaries involved? They cannot be trusted, hope congress follows through on this.
I wish we had the intestinal fortitude to put them all on trial bring out their absolute guilt and stand everyone of them before firing squads!
