Today’s brief begins with underreported immigration news. As the news cycle continues to be over-saturated with Russia-Ukraine War content, other important events are being disregarded.
When it comes to issues like immigration, one can’t help but think the disregard is intentional. In February alone there were 164,973 encounters at the Southern border, whereas in 2020 that number was only 36,687.
Border patrol is continuing to implement Title 42 which has prevented nearly half of migrants from entering the country. However, the increase in migrants can be correlated to Biden’s reversal of Trump-era policies.
Amid the surge, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requested volunteers to join border patrol forces.
‘Once again, we need to tap into our department’s greatest resource: the skills of our talented and diverse workforce. Today, I am asking you to consider stepping forward to support the DHS Volunteer Force,’ an email to employees says.
‘[Customs and Border Protection] continues to encounter large numbers of individuals at the southwest border,’ the email adds. ‘We are seeking your help to support our CBP frontline workforce.’
Meanwhile, as the 2022 elections approach and 2024 becomes clearer, we’re looking back at the decisions of the US intelligence community throughout the last year.
