Leading figures in the Nevada Republican Party, including the state party chairman, have been indicted for allegedly pledging the state’s electors to former President Donald Trump.
Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford accused six Republicans of trying to sabotage President Biden’s victory in the 2020 election by creating a group of fake pro-Trump electors.
“We cannot allow attacks on democracy to go unchallenged,” Ford said in a statement. A Nevada grand jury agreed. (RELATED: Trump Will Be A Dictator! – Shriek Panicked Democrats)
The defendants include Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald, Nevada Republican Party Vice Chairman Jim Hindle III and Clark County (Las Vegas) Republican Party Chairman Jesse Law.
Law declared his candidacy for the state assembly on the day he was indicted.
RNC committeeman Jim DeGraffenreid, Shawn Meehan and Eileen Rice round out the list of defendants.
All six were charged with two felony counts: offering a false instrument for filing and uttering a forged instrument.
Each charge may result in imprisonment for a period of one to five years.

“When the efforts to undermine faith in our democracy began after the 2020 election, I made it clear that I would do everything in my power to defend the institutions of our nation and our state,” Ford said in a statement. “We cannot allow attacks on democracy to go unchallenged. Today’s indictments are the product of a long and thorough investigation, and as we pursue this prosecution, I am confident that our judicial system will see justice done.”
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is currently investigating similar efforts in her state following the 2020 presidential election.
Individuals accused of participating in alternate elector schemes that declared that Trump won in 2020 have also been charged in Georgia and Michigan.
Ten Republicans in Wisconsin who posed as electors in 2020 settled a civil lawsuit on Wednesday and admitted that President Joe Biden won the election and agreed to not serve as electors in 2024 or in any election if Trump is on the ballot.
Kenneth Chesebro, the lawyer responsible for the fake electors scheme, already admitted guilt in the Georgia election interference case and is reportedly cooperating with prosecutors in four states, including providing testimony before the Nevada grand jury that indicted Chairman McDonald and others. Chesebro has entered into proffer agreements with several states, affording him some protection against further prosecution.
But cooperating with authorities does not ensure that he will avoid new criminal charges.
