China Creates Virus With 100% Death Rate

WEDNESDAY PDB – Chinese lab crafts mutant COVID-19 strain with 100% kill rate in ‘humanized' mice: ‘Surprisingly' rapid death.

In a Wuhan-esque study, Chinese scientists are experimenting with a mutant COVID-19 strain that is 100% lethal to “humanized” mice. 

The deadly virus – known as GX_P2V – attacked the brains of mice that were engineered to reflect genetic makeup similar to people. All the mice that were infected with the virus died within just eight days, which researchers noted was a “surprisingly” rapid death rate.

Remain ‘subtle': Lloyd Austin security detail requested no sirens or lights on his ambulance. The Defense Secretary's security detail asked that the ambulance they called for him on Jan. 1 approach his house in Northern Virginia without lights and sirens to remain “subtle,” according to the 911 call.

IRAN THREAT

Iran will escalate until it pays a price. Weakness in Washington only emboldens Tehran, writes Mark Dubowitz.

US strikes Houthi missile sites in retaliation for Red Sea attacks. The U.S. took out four ballistic missiles that were preparing to attack ships in the Red Sea.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

France to give Ukraine more cruise missiles, plans security pact. It will supply Ukraine with about 40 more Scalp-EG cruise missiles and hundreds of bombs in coming weeks.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 693. At least 17 people were injured, two of them seriously, after two Russian missiles struck a residential area in the center of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-biggest city.

Putin says Ukraine's statehood at risk if pattern of war continues. Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Ukraine's statehood could suffer an “irreparable blow” if the pattern of the war continued, and Russia would never be forced to abandon the gains it had made.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

US carrier trains with South Korea and Japan in wake of North's latest launch. Nine warships from the U.S., South Korea and Japan kicked off a combined naval exercise south of the Korean Peninsula a day after North Korea fired its first ballistic missile of the year.

North Korea will no longer pursue reconciliation with South because of hostility. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for rewriting the North's constitution to eliminate the idea of shared statehood between the war-divided countries.

SPACE THREAT

Space Development Agency to buy 54 missile-tracking satellites. The Agency selected three companies to build 18 satellites each for its space-based missile warning, tracking and defense constellation.

US Space Force needs more to effectively deter, win wars. It has not been given all it requires to deter and/or win a war for space superiority in great power conflict.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Qatar, France strike deal to supply medicine to Israeli hostages, Gazans. A plan mediated by Qatar and France to deliver lifesaving medication to Israeli hostages, as well as much-needed aid to civilians in Gaza, went into motion Wednesday.

Belarus hints at new doctrine for using nuclear weapons. Its defense minister said Tuesday that the country will put forth a new military doctrine that for the first time provides for the use of nuclear weapons.

US POWER OVERSEAS 

US Navy's four unmanned ships return from Pacific deployment. The Navy completed its first deployment of four unmanned ships, which spent five months testing concepts for how to integrate their capabilities into crewed fleet operations.

US Army Black Hawk helicopters to join earthquake relief efforts in Japan. The helicopters will deliver supplies to an earthquake-devastated area of central Japan, less than a week after Tokyo said it was not accepting outside help.

US MILITARY

B-2 bombers return to Red Flag, joined by Australian F-35s and UK Typhoons. Three B-2 Spirit bombers made their return for the first Red Flag exercise of 2024 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., this week.

Strong winds blow Marine parachutists out of training area near Mount Fuji. A group of U.S. Marine parachutists landed on sports fields and private property after strong winds blew them out of a training area.

Army has too many infantry, armor lieutenants, asks some to switch to combat-support jobs. It is asking some 250 officers from the class of 2021 to move voluntarily to the adjutant general, finance or signal corps.

Congress approves Space Force part-timers, but still no Space Guard. The move is part of the Space Force's broader vision to adapt military service to the needs of modern Americans.
