In a Truth Social post, former President Donald Trump hinted at deciding Ronna McDaniel’s future as Republican National Committee chair the day after the South Carolina primary.
Trump wrote Monday night:
Things are looking great in the Presidential Race of 2024 against Crooked Joe Biden. We have Leads, in many cases substantial, in virtually every Head-to-Head Poll. The Primary seems to be over, but I’ll be going to South Carolina next week to finish off a very unpopular Candidate. On Thursday, I’m heading to Nevada for the Nevada Caucus, where there are 26 Delegates – Hopefully, we’ll get most of them. In my successful run in 2016, the State of Michigan really came through – First time in Decades that it was won by a Republican, and it was headed up by my friend Ronna McDaniel. Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth.
The post came the day after Fox News host Maria Bartiromo questioned Trump about the Republican National Committee’s dire financial situation. Per the most recent Federal Election Commission report, the RNC has $8 million in available funds as it gears up for the 2024 presidential election.

While Trump did not elaborate on what his “recommendations for RNC Growth” would be, his post appeared to imply that McDaniel’s fate as head of the RNC would be determined by the South Carolina primary.
McDaniel has received heavy criticism from Trump supporters and much of the Republican base who blame the RNC chairwoman for Democratic victories in 2018, 2020, and the GOP failure to retake the Senate in 2022.
Trump hinted at McDaniel’s replacement on Sunday, telling Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo, “I think she did great when she ran Michigan for me… I think she did okay, initially, in the RNC. I would say right now, there’ll probably be some changes made.”
In January of last year, the RNC reelected McDaniel as their leader. The decision was heavily contested, with some influential donors and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis advocating for new blood following the party’s disappointing showing in three consecutive elections.
In November, an unnamed source reportedly close to the former president told CNBC that Trump has grown “increasingly sour” with McDaniel.
