Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

SUNDAY PDB – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), formed after the 9/11 terror attacks, has stopped providing security for the homeland.

INSTEAD: It is intentionally making the homeland less secure, receiving billions of taxpayer dollars to not do what it is supposed to do.

Imagine if the Department of Education closed all the schools or the Department of Defense unilaterally disarmed the military. Americans would rightly conclude that those departments were useless and worse, placed the nation in grave danger.

Today’s DHS – under its easily manipulated leader, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – is obsequiously carrying out the political aims of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party.

Those aims seem to reflect a cynical operating philosophy: that the illicit admission of nearly 10 million unvetted foreigners into the U.S. these past three years will result in census configurations that will create congressional seats and electoral college numbers favorable to the Democratic Party.

The nation’s security and safety are being placed in peril because of the power lust of a few party-first politicians.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Former US ambassador accused of being Cuban agent signals guilty plea. Manuel Rocha was charged in December with acting as an agent of a foreign government and defrauding the U.S., in a case involving one of the biggest national security breaches in years.

NATO support steady in new Gallup poll. A majority of respondents still say they want to see the U.S. either increase or maintain its commitment to the defense alliance.

Moon bound astronauts join USS San Diego crew, Navy divers in capsule recovery drills. When NASA’s Orion spacecraft splashes into the Pacific after its planned lunar mission next year, the first people the astronauts will see will be a bunch of sailors.

POLITICS

Austin says he expected his staff would notify of hospitalization. During the two weeks that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spent in the hospital early this year, officials have emphasized that there was never a gap in the chain of command.

Democrat grills Austin on lack of consequences for Israel over Gaza death toll. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Thursday said that more than 25,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel’s military since Oct. 7, the highest U.S. official to claim such numbers.

Americans fractured along party lines on Ukraine military funding: Survey. Americans are split along party lines on whether they support additional funding for Ukraine, as Congress remains in a standstill over the issue.

Continuing resolution could degrade training for future conflicts. Pentagon plans to preserve force readiness, even if Congress fails to pass a defense spending bill next week. But service leaders fear cuts would have to be made to training vital for joint and allied high-end operations.

Congress passes fourth stopgap funding bill as 1% sequester looms. This, to avoid a government shutdown. The temporary spending measure extends Defense Department funding at fiscal 2023 levels through March 22.

HOMELAND SECURITY – LAW ENFORCEMENT

What to know about Texas’s militarization of the southern border. Joe Biden and former President Trump are both set to visit the U.S.-Mexico border Thursday, trips that come amid a recent buildup of U.S. National Guard troops in Texas.

Accused Pentagon leaker Jack Teixeira plans to plead guilty. Teixeira’s attorneys filed a document in court Thursday indicating a change in plea hearing. The hearing is to ensure a defendant has not coerced to change his plea. Teixeira previously pleaded not guilty.

US POWER OVERSEAS

Poland stint lengthened for Army air defense unit from Texas. A Texas-based Patriot missile air defense unit dispatched to bolster NATO’s eastern flank will have its deployment extended three months.

Massachusetts National Guard police company conducts weapons training during US-led Kenya exercise. The 772nd Military Police Company conducted lethal and less-lethal weapons training Wednesday during the annual Justified Accord exercise.

Aging port cranes on Guam a weak link in Indo-Pacific chain. Guam’s Governor emphasized the island’s growing role in Indo-Pacific defense recently as she lobbied Congress for a share of federal money to replace aging cranes at Guam’s port.

Can bio-cement help the Air Force build new runways in the Pacific? Hidden among the gadgets on display at the AFA Warfare Symposium in Aurora, Colo., were a handful of bricks that could someday play a key role in how the military projects airpower in a future conflict.

Allies probe accidental targeting of US drone by German navy frigate. U.S. and EU military officials are reviewing an incident where the frigate Hessen mistakenly fired twice at an MQ-9 drone during a multinational protection mission in the Red Sea.

CHINA THREAT

Chinese space, nuclear development is ‘breathtakingly fast,’ DOD officials warn. Heads of STRATCOM, Space Command discuss growing nuclear, space dangers.

Three small island nations show how America is failing to stand up to China. As Congress struggles to pass a defense budget, and focuses on Ukraine and Israel, Indo-Pacific allies are also watching anxiously as Washington dithers. For these three in the northern Pacific, U.S. neglect could push them into China’s open arms.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Putin threatens nuclear response to NATO troops if they go to Ukraine. Vladimir Putin used his annual State of the Nation address on Thursday to take aim at the West, threatening to use nuclear weapons against NATO countries.

European states gather Soviet-style artillery rounds for Ukraine. Several have sourced hundreds of thousands of 122-millimeter artillery rounds from abroad to donate to Ukraine, a move that experts say will help bridge Kyiv’s ammunition shortage.

Russian onslaught targets more Ukrainian towns and villages as Ukraine says it shot down 3 warplanes. Moscow is pushing hard in eastern and southeastern Ukraine as it tries to press its current advantage in weapons and troops.

ISRAEL’S WAR AGAINST HAMAS

Chaotic aid delivery turns deadly as Israeli, Gazan officials trade blame. More than 100 people were killed Thursday, Gazan health officials said, after a mob converged on a rare humanitarian aid convoy in Gaza City, triggering a chaotic incident.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Singapore to buy eight F-35A stealth jets, raise defense budget. The order would bring the country’s Joint Strike Fighter fleet to 20.

Indian committee OKs $4 billion buy of BrahMos missiles, more tech. India is closer to buying a multibillion-dollar package of cruise missiles, air defense weapons, surveillance radars and fighter jet engines.

US MILITARY

Navy expeditionary forces eye counter-drone, offensive unmanned ops. The Navy Expeditionary Combat Command provides port security, naval construction, mine clearance, salvage diving and more. Now, it’s eyeing a new tool: operating offensive, lethal drones, to counter unpredictable threats.

Marine Corps seeks anti-drone tool to defend bases. This amid increased attacks on U.S. assets in the Middle East.

Why more American weapons will soon be made outside America. With wars in Ukraine and Gaza straining U.S. arsenals, Washington is seeking to expand production with global partners like Australia.
