Fox News reports that former President Donald Trump is contemplating plucking Kevin McCarthy out of the political wilderness and taking him to the White House in the event he wins a second term. Fox also has the latest updates about a hypothetical cabinet – including a pruned list of running mates.
Naturally, there are some activists who are apoplectic at the very mention of McCarthy’s name.
The last update from the ousted House speaker suggested that McCarthy was pursuing a vendetta against the eight House Republicans who removed him from power, according to CNN. (RELATED: McCarthy Declines Gaetz’s Shocking Offer)
In February, congressional reporters Melanie Zanon and Manu Raju uncovered a campaign led by McCarthy and his allies. Interviews with the seven Republicans who joined Rep. Matt Gaetz’s campaign to remove McCarthy, revealed that wealthy donors who had previously donated to their campaigns were now holding back on writing checks.
The two most vulnerable Republicans who voted to boot McCarthy, Nancy Mace (S.C.) and Bob Good (Va.), are facing tough primaries. Rumors abound on Capitol Hill that McCarthy is involved.
In the end, Gaetz convinced less than 4% of House Republicans to remove McCarthy as speaker, but it was enough to end his 269-day reign when joined by every Democrat.
Gaetz likes to claim that McCarthy violated an agreement to follow conservative principles made in January 2023. That supposed deal led to Gaetz withdrawing his opposition to McCarthy’s speakership nomination after 15 rounds of voting.
