A suspect in a South Carolina mall shooting over the weekend that injured 14 people finds himself back home this morning.
Following the Saturday shootout in Columbia, a judge set the gunman's bond at $25,000, and he was released.
Jewayne Price, 22, will be allowed to travel to and from work while wearing an ankle monitor if he posts bond.
Price is one of three people who were detained by law enforcement following the shooting. The other two adults males were released after police determined they weren't involved.
“We don't believe this was random,” Columbia Police Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook said at a news conference. “We believe they knew each other and something led to the gunfire.”
Local authorities had charged Price once before, charging him with accessory before the fact in the 2018 murder of 17-year-old Amon Rice. According to Fox News, the outcome of that case is unclear.
Aiken County Sheriff Leon Lott (D) recently spoke out against what he dubbed the “catch and release” system.
“We catch people, they serve a little bit of time, they get out and they get right back doing what they normally do and that's commit crimes,” he said at a recent press conference.
“The criminal justice system needs to do better.”
Lott's comments came one month before Price allegedly shot at least 10 of his constituents. Other bystanders suffered injuries during the mall's evacuation.
The gunshot victims' ages range from 15 to 73.
Two other mass shootings occurred over the weekend. A mass shooting at a crowded house party in Pittsburgh early Sunday morning left two 17-year-old boys dead. Later on Sunday, another shootout occurred in South Carolina at a strip club during an Easter-themed event. At least nine people were injured.
Police continue to search for suspects in both cases.
The J6 protestors, many of whom were actually let into the Capitol by the Capitol police are languishing in jail for almost a year and a half with no bail and this creep gets let out??? Why-because he is black and the protestors are white.
Name the judge
Sorry, this can’t be a true story. No judge would do that!
Name the judge.
