Former President Donald Trump’s case regarding classified documents has been indefinitely postponed by Judge Aileen Cannon. This was in response to his attorneys’ suggestion that special counsel Jack Smith’s team did not preserve critical evidence. Prosecutors had revealed that some classified records may not be in the original order in which they were found.
Cannon prefers to address the other pretrial motions before scheduling a trial date.

It may be months before we know the new schedule.https://t.co/SScVNc0KAD pic.twitter.com/xnmlCjK92X
The trial, concerning allegations that Trump unlawfully retained classified documents after leaving the White House, was scheduled to start on May 20.
Cannon’s original trial date split the difference between the government’s request for a December 2023 trial and Trump’s desire to push it back until after the 2024 election.
Reactions to the latest development in the case varied widely across the political spectrum:
And this is all Jack Smith's doing. But hey – Alvin Bragg still has the Michael Cohen card to play in that train wreck of a trial. Lawfare, baby. https://t.co/N1fklUMRVl

Ugh. meanwhile in the Twilight Zone Judge Cannon inches along — one inch forward, two inches back. Don't forget–this is the strongest, most cut-and-dried case out there and she is singlehandedly seeing to its glacial progress. https://t.co/rkq7fAE82D
