Appearing on NewsNation Wednesday night, Bill O’Reilly shared his perspective on former President Donald Trump’s remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago. He claimed that Trump “blew it” during his Q&A session.
O’Reilly, a former Fox News host with the top-rated cable news program for 13 years, discussed the event with Chris Cuomo. The conservation highlighted the controversy surrounding Trump’s comments about Vice President Kamala Harris and other issues that emerged during the event.
The Controversial Remarks
During the event, Trump made a remark about Harris, claiming she “turned Black.” This statement, among others, drew significant criticism and became a focal point of media attention. According to O’Reilly, it was reminiscent of Trump’s infamous clash with Megyn Kelly back in 2015. O’Reilly stated:
“This will be looped over and over and over again, more people will think he’s a racist, and Kamala Harris is going, hey, look at me! Kamala Harris gave a very, very good speech in Atlanta. Very smooth. Very under control. Totally deceptive speech. Totally deceptive. No media outlet called her on it. She said Trump refused to debate her. That’s not true. Trump gave her a little jazz.”
A Deeper Look at the Comments
At the conference, Trump commented on Harris’ identity, saying:
“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn, she went – she became Black. Somebody should look into that.”
O’Reilly’s Critique
O’Reilly argued that Trump failed to clearly articulate his broader criticism of Harris, which centers on the idea that she is “a phony” who uses her ethnicity for political gain. However, according to O’Reilly, Trump’s delivery fell flat, leaving room for misinterpretation and controversy.

Wow! I recall at the very beginning of the Biden-Harris presidency that Kamala, in front of cameras, stated her ethnicity-mom was from India and father from Jamaica. This should not matter in this day and age. Truly who cares as she identifies with both. This should not be media shamed as “deceptive”. No one spends time on Trump’s multitude of lies, deceptions etc. He just is allowed to continue on and on taking no blame in felonious actions making false promise etc. I could not believe he said he’s the only president that helped the blacks since President Lincoln! Harris, 59, has long self-identified as both Black and South Asian. She was born in Oakland, California, to an Indian-born mother and Jamaican-born father and is the first Black and the first Asian-American vice president in US history. I would say Trump has a pretty good argument. Years ago she was Indian and now she is Black. I guess whatever it takes to get the votes.
I think he could have handled a number of things better, like the DEI question, but getting into an ethnicity squabble over something that really doesn’t matter was stupid. Give him credit though, he will go into enemy territory when most won’t.

Trump was using wit and irony to suggest that Harris is disingenuous and uses race when it is beneficial politically and not otherwise. I fully understood what he was saying but it went right over the idiot interviewer’s head. How could you not laugh? I thought it was mildly caustic and classic Trump.
