Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

WEDNESDAY PDB Politically disavowed by Trump, Project 2025 still aligns with conservative vision of the US military. Banning transgender recruits, abolishing diversity initiatives and shutting down command social media channels are among the changes to the Defense Department being advocated by influential conservatives should Donald Trump return to the White House.

Military schools also are an area of focus for Project 2025, with a recommendation that audits be carried out on course offerings at the military academies “to remove Marxist indoctrination” and “eliminate tenure for academic professionals” who would be treated like ordinary DOD contractors.

EXCELLENT PLANS.

YES – AS THEY SHOULD – Leaked training videos show already politicized civil service remains in Project 2025’s crosshairs. The training videos for aspiring political appointees in the next Republican administration developed by Project 2025 stop short of overtly discussing GOP plans for the federal civil service, though architects repeatedly refer to the need for better “political control” of agencies and more political appointees atop government.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Trump wants a US ‘Iron Dome’ the military hasn’t asked for. He spoke about it again in his exchange with Elon Musk Monday night.

NORAD boss calls for better Arctic awareness. This, in the wake of recent approaches to North America by Chinese and Russian bombers.

WHAT ABOUT GROWING RUSSIA CHINA MILITARY LINKS?! – The US and communist Cuba are at an impasse over expanding relations. The idiotic Biden administration says Cuba needs to address human rights concerns before more progress can be made on diplomatic ties. CUBA SHOULD BE PUNISHED NOT REWARDED.

‘No time to waste’: NIST formally issues standards for defense against quantum hacking. This may be the start of the single largest overhaul of US government communication systems since the adoption of the Internet, as ordered in National Security Memorandum 10. It will probably go on for decades and will cost billions of dollars.

The Geneva Conventions — the world’s rules of war — are 75 years old and ignored nearly everywhere. It is the world’s best-known rulebook on the protection of civilians, detainees and wounded soldiers in war. Its defenders are calling for a new commitment to international humanitarian law.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Defense secretary’s intervention in 9/11 cases faces judge’s scrutiny. The war court in Guantánamo Bay will assess the legality of Lloyd Austin’s effort to quash plea deals with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other accused plotters and send them to trial instead.

US Army soldier pleads guilty to selling sensitive US military information, including dozens of documents addressing topics ranging from rocket systems to Chinese military tactics.

POLITICS

STOP PICKING COWARDS AND LIARS. Will the attacks on Walz’s military service stick like they did to Kerry 20 years ago? In some corners of the Democratic Party, last week felt like déjà vu. The party’s vice-presidential nominee’s military record was under assault from Republicans — attacks reminiscent of those leveled two decades earlier on Sen. John Kerry during his run for the White House.

LAME RESPONSE – Walz hits back at Vance over military service. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) hit back at Sen. J.D. Vance’s (R-Ohio) attacks on his military record Tuesday, as the battle between the two vice presidential candidates escalates.

DEMOCRATS ARE Appalled: Veterans slam Trump campaign’s attacks on Tim Walz’s military background. More than 1,000 veterans and military family members recruited by Democrats have signed an open letter criticizing the attacks on the dishonorable and embellished military service of Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz.

US POWER OVERSEAS

ISRAEL’S WAR AGAINST TERROR

US clears potential $20B in weapon sales to Israel, including new F-15s, munitions and vehicles.

IRAN THREAT

US threatens ‘swift and severe’ response if Iran sends ballistic missiles to Russia. This, following reports that the country plans to send hundreds of the satellite-guided weapons to Moscow soon.

8 US troops treated for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), smoke inhalation after weekend Syria attack.

CHINA THREAT

US ambassador to Japan: The Navy is breaking down. We need our allies’ help to fix our ships. Since the 1996 Taiwan Strait crisis, Chinese power has grown exponentially. It now has the world’s largest navy and the world’s largest shipbuilding industry and is flexing its muscle. It has harassed and bullied its Indo-Pacific neighbors, from the Philippines to Japan to Taiwan.

To best China, Pentagon must shed “the same old mindsets.” Pentagon officials say the U.S. stands at the precipice of a new golden age of defense innovation driven by upstart contractors, advances in technology and a world brimming with threats.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Russia says it thwarted a Ukrainian charge to expand its stunning weeklong incursion of Russia’s Kurk region. Kyiv says it won’t occupy land.

Russia withdraws some forces from Ukraine in response to Kursk invasion. Ukraine was sending in reinforcements Tuesday to bolster its foothold in the Russian border region

NORTH KOREA THREAT

US and South Korean forces stage live fire drills to sharpen proficiency. The drills are part of rapid deployment training, known as Warrior Fortitude.

SPACE THREAT

The Army wants its own ‘Space Force.’ They shouldn’t be allowed to have it. The Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) recently announced plans to increase its space personnel and space control capabilities, despite the presence of the Space Force, created specifically to centralize resources and talent to maintain space superiority.

Commerce IG frets delays in transition of space monitoring from DOD. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Space Commerce (OSC) needs to revise its current program to both speed up game in taking on the Pentagon’s mission to warn non-military satellite operators of potential crashes.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

HUMILIATING BIDEN-HARRIS DISASTER – The Taliban are celebrating three years in power at a former U.S. air base in Afghanistan, but they’re not talking about suffering Afghans.

Tens of thousands of Indian soldiers drill for counterinsurgency amid rise in rebel attacks in Kashmir. This, in the remote Himalayas, the highly militarized Line of Control that divides Kashmir region between India and Pakistan.

US MILITARY

Seeking ‘warfighter mindset,’ Air Force and Guardian basic trainees now carrying non-functioning rifles through boot camp.

Navy SWO boss: 75-Warship readiness goal remains a work in progress. Eighteen months into its two-year maintenance plan, the Navy hasn’t yet reached its target to have 75% of its warships as mission capable and prepared to deploy at any time.

After CENTOM experiments, Army seeks more rugged counter-drone lasers to put on vehicles. High-energy laser testing against drones out in the Middle East is driving a new round of U.S. Army prototyping with an eye towards a lower power class for smaller vehicles and robots.

Army, Clemson University unveil new, optionally manned Deep Orange 15 rescue vehicle. The Army’s DEVCOM and Clemson jointly created the new semi-autonomous, optionally piloted vehicle.

Navy to test automated target recognition capabilities for undersea warfare. This, as the sea service looks for new underwater sensors, automated target recognition capabilities and other tools to protect assets and perform other critical missions.

Ditch fast food on base to reduce obesity, says Pentagon’s top senior enlisted leader.U.S. troops might become more physically fit if military installations banned cheeseburgers and other fast food.
