Michigan man arrested for shooting neighbor
Authorities stated that Devereaux Christopher Johnson, age 47, had an altercation with 35-year-old Nathan Morris near Johnson's residence in Canton Township last Saturday afternoon.
Johnson allegedly threatened Morris and his family when his daughter touched some wood chips at Johnson's property.
Canton Township police discovered Morris lying on the street with a gunshot wound and rushed him to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, Johnson refused to come out of his home in a brief standoff, but eventually exited and was apprehended by the authorities.
Michigan man known to be neighborhood nuisance
Law enforcement revealed that the Michigan man has a history of aggressive behavior towards neighbors and police officers, coupled with criminal sexual conduct charges dating back to the 1990s.
“This was an act of senseless violence against the victim,” expressed Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh in a statement.
“The Canton Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the victim's family and the neighbors who may have witnessed this tragic incident.”
Neighbors informed WXYZ-TV that Johnson's behavior had become increasingly violent and erratic in recent weeks.
“Everyone has been warning their wives and children to be cautious, avoid eye contact, and not walk alone,” said Vish Vadari.
