Two people were killed in what police are calling a “targeted shooting” on a Cleveland highway early Saturday morning.

According to preliminary information from Cleveland police, officers responded around 1:40 a.m. to the area of I-71 North at the I-90 split, where a vehicle had crashed into a wall. Police say inside the car, they found a woman who’d been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 31-year-old man in the vehicle had also been shot, police said. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
According to police, the two victims had just left a gathering at a residence on Denison Avenue. As they got onto the highway, an unknown vehicle approached, and someone inside fired multiple shots into the victims’ vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene, police said.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the female victim as Emerald Vanderhorst.
