Baltimore Mayor Is Forced To Address ‘Human Violence’ But Still Blames Guns

We’ve seen it time and time again. Whenever violence erupts in a Democrat-run city, the anti-gun crowd responds exactly how we would expect. They focus on the gun, not the perpetrator. It’s a well-worn playbook. After every tragic incident, we hear the same rhetoric from politicians and their allies. They blame the gun and call for more restrictions, all while ignoring the undeniable truth. The problem is not the firearm; it’s the criminal pulling the trigger.

The narrative is clear. Democrat leaders, mayors, governors, and lawmakers are all too happy to exploit violent incidents to push for more gun control, often with policies like early-release programs and bail reform that give criminals license to commit more crimes. All of this, of course, sets the stage for more attacks on the Second Amendment. But something is shifting. Thanks to the tireless work of advocates and gun-rights organizations, the narrative is starting to change.

The gun-grabbers are beginning to feel the heat of our pushback, and they can no longer pretend that their misguided policies are solving any problems.

For years, we’ve been shouting it from the rooftops. The issue isn’t guns! It’s the violent maniacs. And yet, many refuse to listen, likely because disarming their political opposition has always been part of the left’s playbook. The truth is that their focus on gun control isn’t born from ignorance, but from a deliberate attempt at disarming law-abiding citizens while allowing violent criminals to run rampant. After all, restricting access to firearms doesn’t stop criminals from obtaining them, it only disarms those willing to follow the law, ultimately making good people vulnerable to violence.

But we’ve wised up to their game. Now, even the staunchest gun control advocates are being forced to face uncomfortable truths, thanks in part to the pressure from the millions of Americans who refuse to back down and submit to unconstitutional gun restrictions. It’s clear that we won’t stand by while politicians exploit violence to further their own agenda. We won’t let them use our rights as a political pawn.

Take Baltimore, for example. In a recent announcement, Mayor Brandon Scott admitted that maybe, just maybe, it’s time to focus on the criminals instead of the guns. His statement, made during an interview on MSNBC, came with the unveiling of a new “comprehensive violence prevention plan.” While the mayor still places the blame on “gun violence,” he at least acknowledges the role of “human violence.” It’s a small step, but it’s a step in the right direction.

However, let’s not rush to give Scott credit just yet. This change in tone comes after intense pressure from both local citizens and pro-Second Amendment advocates who are demanding blue-state officials uphold their oath and defend the Bill of Rights. Scott’s newfound focus on addressing criminal behavior is likely a political move, one that acknowledges the mounting frustrations of his constituents who are fed up with the same old song and dance from politicians who refuse to hold criminals accountable.

But let’s be clear, it remains to be seen whether Scott will follow through and prosecute criminals. Democrats haven’t inspired much confidence in this area. The political left has long ignored the need to hold violent offenders accountable, so it’s anyone’s guess whether this “new focus” will lead to real change. Still, it’s worth noting that even if Scott does take some action, it would be a refreshing break from the usual mantra of gun control without consequences for those committing the crimes.

What’s truly ironic about this situation is that Mayor Scott’s administration continues to boast about the success of its lawsuit against Polymer 80, a company that manufactures parts for firearms. Despite all the hoopla, the lawsuit had little to no impact on reducing crime in Baltimore. The city’s already slight downward crime trajectory since the 2020 left-wing riots was largely the result of increased police presence and better community policing, not restrictions on firearm manufacturers. Yet, the Mayor persists in pretending that suing a parts manufacturer is the real solution to the violence in his city. In reality, by the time Democrat supporters nearly burned Baltimore to the ground during the 2020 riots, violence in the city had reached a level where it couldn’t possibly had gotten much worse.

Although Scott and the Baltimore Police Department would love for you to believe that so called “gun-violence” is the problem in Baltimore, it was the increased police activity and the city’s efforts to address “human-violence,” as noted by the Baltimore Police Department on their own website, that helped drive down crime. These efforts included hiring more officers, ensuring compliance with consent decrees (which often involve revising police policies and training), and rebuilding trust between law enforcement and the community.

While these efforts were underway, the mayor was busy pushing gun control measures that did nothing to address the root cause of the violence: the criminals themselves.

Baltimore, with some of the strictest gun laws in the country, remains one of the most violent cities in America. If gun control truly worked, Baltimore should be a model of peace and tranquility. Yet, the reality is far different. When a city like Baltimore has exhausted every available gun law and still sees rampant violence, the only logical conclusion is that gun laws are not the solution to stop human violence. The criminals must be held accountable, and the law-abiding citizens must not be punished for the failures of their government by being disarmed.

So, while Mayor Scott’s shift in focus is a step in the right direction, it’s clear that his past actions have done little to solve the problem. Gun control policies have been a failed experiment, and the people of Baltimore deserve better.

A message to Mayor Scott: it’s time to stop using gun laws as a scapegoat for your city’s crime problems. Focus on the criminals, not the tools they use. And remember, when you ignore the truth, we, the people, will hold you accountable.
