MANZANO, New Mexico — A multi-agency law enforcement response in the Manzano area of New Mexico resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting Tuesday, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to New Mexico State Police, the incident began with reports that an armed male suspect shot at a deputy, prompting a coordinated manhunt involving multiple agencies, according to KOAT-TV.
The Torrance County Sheriff’s Department said the response was concentrated near State Highway 55 and Highway 131, where residents were advised to shelter in place due to active law enforcement operations.
State police reported that the suspect, described as a Hispanic male approximately five feet six inches tall with gray hair, was considered armed and dangerous during the search. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was ultimately shot and killed during the encounter with law enforcement.
No deputies or officers were injured during the incident, according to officials.
