West Virginia Governor Signs Campus Carry Legislation

-

Governor has signed SB 10 into law, which permits the carry of firearms on college campuses in his state.

The law goes into effect on July 1st, 2024, and will make West Virginia the 12th in the country.

The legislation was backed by a number of advocacy groups including the National Rifle Association.

In a media release issued by the organization, NRA's West Virginia State Director Art Thom share the following thoughts about the bill:

“The Campus Act recognizes the fact that danger doesn't disappear just because you've stepped onto campus grounds. Now, those who choose to exercise the right will have the ability to protect themselves, their classmates, and their loved ones should they need.”

Still, not everyone is excited about the bill. The Campaign to Keep Off Campus is one organization that has condemned the move.

West Virginia University (WVU) has also formally voiced its concerns with the legislation, calling for “local control” on the issue.

In a media release issued by the University, WVU President E. Gordon Gee shared that the school “will create a new Campus Safety Group which will make recommendations relating to our overall campus safety prior to the implementation date.”

  1. This gives the students a close up look at the good purpose in carry-on-campus. It will reduce mass shooting attacks on formerly gun free zones. Most mass murderers are cowards, and dont want to have students shoot back.

  2. Oh noes, this is absolutely terrifyingly horrifying news, why just look at how many students and professors have been slaughtered by them crazy gun nuts who claim they just want to protect themselves and their friends. The number must be in the thousands by now, maybe hundreds, possibly dozens at least. Can anyone cite a single example of a legally armed student or professor who murdered someone on campus? I’ll wait.
