The mother of Kayla Hamilton, a 20-year-old Maryland woman murdered in 2022 by an illegal immigrant and known MS-13 gang member, is calling out Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) for making what many are calling a callous and disrespectful remark during a recent congressional hearing.
Speaking on Fox & Friends First, Tammy Nobles, Kayla’s mother, responded emotionally to Crockett’s now-viral comments, in which the Texas Democrat referred to her daughter as a “random dead person” during a debate on the Kayla Hamilton Act.
“You just don’t call a victim of a crime just a random dead person,” Nobles said. “No victim should be referred to that way. What she said was really nasty, and it came across as racist.”
A Mother’s Anguish
Kayla Hamilton was sexually assaulted and strangled in July 2022 by a 17-year-old male from El Salvador who had entered the U.S. illegally. He was later confirmed to be affiliated with the violent transnational criminal gang MS-13.
Tammy Nobles has since become a vocal advocate for reform, and she fully supports the Kayla Hamilton Act, introduced by Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC). The legislation is designed to tighten screening procedures for unaccompanied migrant minors and strengthen background checks, including identifying gang affiliations before placement in U.S. communities.

During a House Judiciary Committee debate on the proposed legislation, Rep. Crockett accused Republicans of politicizing individual tragedies for their own gain, likening the bill to a form of exploitation.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler, who was involved in the investigation into Kayla’s murder, also condemned Crockett’s comments.
“Kayla was important. Her life mattered. And for Congresswoman Crockett to be so dismissive, so insensitive to a crime victim, any crime victim, it just speaks to the character of who we’re electing from some jurisdictions around this country,” Gahler said during the same Fox & Friends First segment.
“Pathetic is the best word I have for it.”
The Kayla Hamilton Act: A Push for Accountability
The Kayla Hamilton Act seeks to close what its sponsors describe as “dangerous loopholes” in the federal government’s handling of unaccompanied migrant children. Key provisions of the bill include:
- Gang-affiliation screening: Mandating checks for gang tattoos or other indicators.
