Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who has built her political brand on crusading against the ultra-wealthy and portraying herself as a champion of the working class, is under fire once again — this time for what critics call glaring hypocrisy during her nationwide “Fighting Oligarchy” tour with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

According to recent campaign finance disclosures, AOC’s campaign spent thousands of dollars on luxury hotel accommodations, including $3,508.92 at the five-star Vdara Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas, known for its high-end suites and posh spa amenities. This particular expense was logged in March during the tour’s Nevada stop, raising questions about how a self-proclaimed socialist reconciles such elite spending habits with her anti-wealth rhetoric.

“For the People” — From First Class

Ocasio-Cortez, who frequently rails against the “top 1%,” was also photographed flying first-class to Las Vegas, which didn’t go unnoticed by critics already wary of her well-documented fondness for luxury aesthetics — including her infamous 2021 appearance at the Met Gala in a custom “Tax the Rich” dress.

AOC’s high-profile stops came with similar price tags: $3,445.59 at the Asher Adams Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah and $3,165.76 at the Leo Kent Hotel in Tucson, Arizona, the same month.

Each of these stays coincided with events during the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, where Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders urged their audiences to “reject capitalist excess” and “demand economic justice.”

The Message vs. The Lifestyle

During a March town hall in North Las Vegas, AOC declared, “The only division that is truly hurting our country the most is the endless greed by those at the very, very top at the cost of everyone else.”

Critics say the optics of luxury hotel bills and elite travel undercut that message.

“You can’t fight the oligarchy while living like the oligarchy,” quipped one social media user after news of the hotel bills broke.

Sanders: A Cheaper Taste?

Interestingly, Sen. Bernie Sanders — who joined Ocasio-Cortez on the tour and is himself a millionaire — appears to have been more frugal. His campaign made similar bookings at the same hotels, but for significantly lower amounts: $624.28 at the Leo Kent in Tucson and three $487.54 payments at the Vdara in Vegas.

Sanders’ campaign did spend more overall on hotel bookings in 2025, with over 216 entries compared to AOC’s 16, according to FEC data — but most of his bookings were modest and outside the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.

Critics Pounce on “Democratic Socialist” Spending

AOC’s critics are accusing her of hypocrisy and political posturing. Despite her frequent targeting of the wealthy, her lifestyle choices — from designer clothes to pricey hotel stays — have increasingly become a political liability.

“She talks like a Marxist, travels like a CEO,” one commentator noted.

“The working class she claims to represent can’t even afford a weekend at a Holiday Inn, much less Vdara or Asher Adams.”

Meanwhile, neither Ocasio-Cortez’s nor Sanders’ offices responded to media requests for comment on the expenditures.

A Pattern?

This isn’t the first time AOC has faced questions about her finances and public image:

  • The House Ethics Committee reviewed her Met Gala attendance.
  • Her $58 million campaign war chest has funded a number of high-cost promotional projects.
  • And her “influencer-style” social media presence has drawn comparisons to celebrity activism rather than grassroots leadership.

Final Thought

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez continues to position herself as a fierce advocate for economic justice, yet the disparity between her rhetoric and her spending behavior threatens to undermine her credibility among working-class voters.
