Just like that, another Republican congressman bites the dust.
In a cryptic statement released on Saturday, Rep. Bill Posey (R-Fla.) announced that he would not seek reelection, citing “circumstances beyond my control.”
Posey suspended his campaign and offered his endorsement to a chosen successor.
Orlando's WFTV Channel 9 has more:
He has endorsed former Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos — a fellow Republican who qualified to run for the seat hours before qualifying closed at noon Friday.
“Without going into a lot of personal details, stars aligned during the past week, and Mike decided he was ready for Congress,” Posey said. “I enthusiastically endorse him and will do everything I can to help him get elected.”
The 76-year-old has represented Florida's 8th Congressional District (Titusville, Melbourne and Cape Canaveral) since 2008.
