House Lawmakers Propose Joint McCarthy-Jordan Speakership

-

Some have reportedly floated a potential solution to the weekslong fiasco.

Ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) could end up right where he started in the Speaker's office, but this time with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) serving as assistant speaker, according to sources.

Two sources confirmed to Fox News Digital Tuesday evening that a plan was being floated to reinstate McCarthy as speaker and elevate the Judiciary Chairman to an assistant speaker role.

Jordan was the House GOP's second speaker-designate, but he was forced out of the race after failing three chamber-wide votes and then being voted out of the position via anonymous ballot in a Republican conference meeting. (RELATED: Jordan Loses House GOP Support)

When asked about the idea, McCarthy simply told reporters, “Some members are talking.”

NBC News reported that McCarthy himself was floating getting back in the race.

It comes as Republicans have failed to fill the speaker's chair for nearly a month, with three consecutive nominees being struck down by in-fighting.

In a surprising turn of events on Tuesday, the House Republican Conference selected relatively unknown Congressman Mike Johnson (R-La.) as speaker designate after secret ballot and “open” roll call vote behind closed doors. The move came after Rep. Tom Emmer‘s abrupt withdrawal.

American Liberty News previously reported:

Yesterday saw the nomination and abrupt withdrawal of Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN-6) for the speaker's gavel. A day long secret ballot and open roll call vote had Emmer, Number three in GOP seniority as the majority whip, falling about 25 Members short of the 217 needed to secure the speakership. In addition, former President Donald J. Trump attacked Emmer as a RINO, effectively stopping this campaign dead. It has been reported Emmer “just up and left” around 4 p.m., departing the Longworth House Office Building after withdrawing his name from consideration.

The House is expected to reconvene at noon Wednesday for a full floor vote on Johnson's speakership bid.
