Jan. 6 Committee Urges Justice Department to Prosecute Trump

-

The House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack is urging the (DOJ) to prosecute former President .

The committee voted to recommend charges against Trump on four counts for trying to overturn the valid 2020 election and the U.S. Capitol riot. The vote was 9-0.

Trump is accused of 1.) obstruction of an official proceeding; 2.) conspiracy to defraud the United States; 3.) conspiracy to make a false statement and 4.) inciting, assisting or aiding/comforting an insurrection.

CNN explains:

So what is a criminal referral?

A referral represents a recommendation that the Justice Department investigate and look at charging the individuals in question. The House committee's final report – to be released Wednesday – will provide justification from the panel's investigation for recommending the charges.

Congress has never issued criminal referrals for a former president before today. Besides Trump, the select committee approved multiple criminal referrals for Trump lawyer John Eastman “and others” in the former president's inner circle.

While reading the panel's recommendations, Congressman Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said that additional criminal violations might be applicable to Trump's conduct leading up to and during the riot.

CNN continues:

But whether the department brings charges will depend on whether the facts and the evidence support a prosecution, Attorney General Merrick Garland has said. Garland will make the ultimate call on charging decisions.

In addition to criminal referrals, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, the chair of the January 6 committee, has said the panel could issue five to six other categories of referrals, such as ethics referrals to the House Ethics Committee, bar discipline referrals and campaign finance referrals.

WATCH LIVE:

The panel referred four Republican members of Congress to the House Committee on Ethics for refusing to come before the committee.

Five defied their subpoenas to appear and testify. They are:

  • House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
  • Jim , R-
  • Mo Brooks, R-Ala.
  • Scott Perry, R-Pa.
  • Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a committee member, said on Sunday that his colleagues had obtained enough evidence to charge Trump.

Trump maintains he did nothing wrong and calls investigations into him “witch hunts.”

  1. Is there any surprise here? The sham bi-partisan kangaroo court recommends charges against Donald Trump. Just more lies from the likes of Schiff, who once again, says there is proof/evidence that crimes were committed.

  2. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a committee member, said on Sunday that he believed he and his colleagues had obtained enough evidence to charge Trump.”

BWAHAHAHAHAA!!! If TDS were blessed, these folks are on-beyond sainthood.

The January 6 committee should be prosecuted, jailed, and ordered to pay restitution to the government for their grotesque and incorrigible waste of taxpayer’s money over the past couple of years.

  3. Well, Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin have met and decided what needs to be done. Everyone is completely shocked at the outcome.

    • Perfect analogy. They are terrified of Trump and will do whatever it takes to destroy his reputation and legacy. Human nature doesn’t change.

  4. Schiff lies CONSTANTLY. I think he believes that if he tells his lies enough times, that people will start to believe them. HE should be referred to the Ethics Committee for sure!

  5. AND I urge the DOJ to prosecute the Jan 6 committee for all of their criminal activities….especially lying. The constituion allows freedom of speech but not whee it’s all lies.

  6. There is no question that the American people know beyond a shadow of doubt that this not only was a huge waste of tax payers money but a corrupt and rigged process to attempt a failing process to keep President Trump from running for office. You really have to be stupid or a democrat to think they were doing something leagal.

  7. Rep. Maxine Waters: “If you see anybody from that (Trump) Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
SO……….. when do we put together a committee to prosecute her and others for threatening the POTUS and his cabinet? This Republican house better have some balls. This may be our last hope.
