U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is undergoing antibiotic infusions in the hospital to fight off an undisclosed infection.
An email from his press secretary states that the senator is “in good spirits” and eagerly awaits his return to his duties “as soon as possible following doctors' orders.”
No other details about his condition have been provided at this time.
Grassley, the second-highest-ranking Republican senator and the sixth-longest-serving senator in U.S. history, is 90.
His staff says that he is expected to make a full recovery.
Last year, Grassley underwent surgery to fix a fractured hip. He returned to the Senate in a wheelchair some weeks later.
Several of his colleagues shared their well wishes on social media after the news broke.
I have met very few people in my life who are as tough as @ChuckGrassley. I have no doubt he'll make a quick and speedy recovery.
