As Manchin Dithers On Re-election Bid, Ad Buy Highlights His Betrayal Of West Virginia’s Interests

-

Washington, D.C. Democrat has yet to announce whether he'll seek another term in the U.S. Senate. As he makes up his mind, a GOP-aligned group, , announced it would spend $1 million in the state reminding voters how the state's senior senator betrayed his constituents' interests when he provided the critical vote needed to allow President Joe Biden's to become law.

The group said the campaign was intended to urge Manchin, who has frequently been a stumbling block to administration efforts on the environment and the , to stop putting West Virginia jobs at risk by siding with D.C. liberals' climate policies.

One Nation has produced an ad, “West Virginia Jobs, that will air in heavy rotation throughout the state, highlighting the adverse impact that has followed the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of which, the group says, Manchin was “the chief architect.”

The legislation had been bottled up for some time in the Senate until Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Manchin were able to reach an agreement that allowed it to proceed to passage. Problematic for the West Virginia Democrat is the failure of his Democratic colleagues in to deliver on what he was promised in exchange for his vote on the so-called anti-inflationary measure.

“Senator Manchin sided with President Joe Biden and Washington liberals to pass a trillion-dollar climate law that will hurt West Virginia workers and their families,” said One Nation President and CEO Steven Law who promised his group would continue to call out lawmakers like Manchin who advocate “bad policies.”

At one time the most popular politician in the state due to his opposition to Biden's policy proposals related to energy and the environment, Manchin saw his support collapse throughout the state after it was revealed he'd played a key role in getting the Inflation Reduction Act, which critics refer to as a backdoor implementation of the agenda, through Congress.

Once thought unwinnable for the GOP, the race for Manchin's seat has moved up the ladder into the top tier of contests through which the Republicans hope to regain a majority in the United States Senate. Congressman , R-W.Va., has already announced his candidacy. The national , meanwhile, is counting heavily on term-limited West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, who most current show would beat Manchin, into making a bid. The ad will be run statewide on a combination of broadcast and cable television channels as well as on radio and in digital formats.
