The Dirty Secret Behind Washington’s Planned Parenthood Funding

A grassroots pro-life group is urging Senate leaders to cut off all taxpayer funds to abortionists, but Republicans under President Donald Trump are showing little interest.

“With just over three weeks remaining until the provision of the historic 2025 Working Families Tax Cuts that defunds Big Abortion expires on July 4, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America sent a letter to U.S. Senate Republicans this week urging them to stay committed to passing a reconciliation bill that keeps taxpayer dollars out of the hands of Big Abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood,” SBA Pro-Life America reports.

SBA Pro-Lif America notes “the letter, which follows a similar letter sent to the House last week, reads in part:”

According to their own most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood boasted a record 434,450 abortions in one year. Women seeking pregnancy-related help were sold an abortion 97% of the time, as compared to being given prenatal care, miscarriage care, or adoption referrals. Entities like these should not be rewarded with taxpayer funding.

Women deserve better and more comprehensive care, and they are not without good options: For every Planned Parenthood, there are at least 15 community health centers (including federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics) offering women’s healthcare. A nationwide survey conducted by Cygnal found that a full 75% of Republican primary voters support defunding Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business.

“The letters highlight the tragic case of 18-year-old Lexi Arguello, who died from complications of a second-trimester abortion at a Colorado Planned Parenthood last year. According to family, rather than call an ambulance immediately, Fort Collins Planned Parenthood admitted waiting too long to call for help and specifically requested no sirens on the ride to the hospital,” SBA Pro-Life America reports

The Senate letter notes that “budget reconciliation remains the only viable legislative path to continuing to defund Big Abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood. We urge you to act quickly for the sake of the unborn and their moms, like Lexi”

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented:

“Speaker Johnson’s eloquent remarks on the right to life, the first of human rights, promised in our nation’s founding documents are an inspiring reminder of why it is so vital to stop propping up the brutal abortion industry. Under Johnson and Leader Thune, Congress delivered a historic win for babies, moms and taxpayers in the Working Families Tax Cuts and proved to everyone that what once seemed barely imaginable—defunding Big Abortion of its number one largest stream of tax dollars, Medicaid—can be done. As Lexi Arguello’s tragic death shows, and even The New York Times uncovered in its stunning report on appalling ‘care’ standards in Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide, women and children everywhere are safer and better off without Big Abortion businesses. And it is a winner with the GOP’s overwhelmingly pro-life voting base. As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we urge all our Senate and House allies to stand strong and do what it takes to get a reconciliation bill to the finish line that continues protecting birthdays for all Americans.”

But Republicans under Donald Trump have shown little interest in defunding Planned Parenthood.

In Trump’s first term, he signed legislation that sent Planned Parenthood more money than they got under Obama – even cutting a deal with a Democrat-minority to pass it in a GOP-controlled Congress.

In Trump’s second term he has already approved cheaper abortion pills, is mailing abortion pills into states that ban abortion and has urged Republican to tax-fund abortions in order to get a deal to expand taxpayer-subsidized health care.

Abortion deaths under Trump have reached record highs.
