Assessing The Limits: Can Team Trump’s Anti-Woke Agenda Go Too Far?

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Maybe a bit. US Coast Guard Academy censors ‘climate change’ from its curriculum. But the mission of the service sends it into areas damaged by intense hurricanes and around the melting ice of the Arctic.

The Coast Guard responds to hurricanes, floods and more. They endure heat exposure in the tropics and perform operations in Arctic waters, where shipping is surging due to the retreat of polar ice.

While this sea service is under DHS command in peacetime, the news reinforces my first thoughts when Secretary of Defense Hegseth said all climate change “crap” would be removed from the military.

While highly politicized “climate change” verbiage and instruction should definitely not be part of our military education, climate does matter in terms of operations and warfighting.

There might be a point when our anti-woke efforts go a bit too far.

Retired Adm. Paul Zukunft, commandant of the Coast Guard from 2014 to 2018, said that cadets need to be educated about climate in order to effectively undertake missions in harsh maritime environments and to participate in decision-making with other federal agencies, such as when confronting disasters.

“If we’re not smart about the environment that we operate in, we’re going to be a much less capable Coast Guard,” Zukunft said. “I think even more importantly, we become marginal players across the interagency process … and I think we have a lot to contribute because we are out there on a regular basis.”

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Elon Musk calls on US to quit NATO, saying on X that it “doesn’t make sense for America to pay for the defense of Europe.”

HOMELAND SECURITY

DEPORT! – A federal judge has temporarily blocked Team Trump’s attempt to deport pro-Hamas activist Mahmoud Khalil, who was arrested over the weekend by immigration agents.

Uptick of recent civilian aircraft intercepts near Mar-a-Lago is ‘unusual.’ Air Force F-16 fighters were scrambled over Trump’s residence in Palm Beach, Florida twice last weekend, a growing trend in his second term.

POLITICS

A stopgap federal spending bill unveiled by House Republicans this weekend would add $6 billion in new spending for DoD and another $6 billion for the VA this fiscal year, but it still could cause financial headaches for both agencies later.

$1 spending limit for travel cards. DoD effectively barred its civilian employees from using their government-issued travel charge cards.

US POWER OVERSEAS

A cargo ship hit a tanker carrying jet fuel for the US military off eastern England on Monday, setting both vessels ablaze and sending fuel pouring into the North Sea.

An infantry battalion known as the “China Marines” has been reborn as a littoral combat team as part of the Marine Corps’ force structure changes that focus on China and the Pacific.

Air Force B-52s continued a busy bomber task force deployment to Europe by participating in multiple drills with NATO partners last week, including simulated weapons targeting exercises in Italy and Estonia, and a live munitions drop in Finland.

CHINA THREAT

NASA is critical to US preeminence in space and to national security. China intends to lead the world in space. To counter that the US should boost its position by reinvigorating NASA as part of a three-tiered effort to win the 21st century space race.

China is systematically building a legal framework for a potential invasion of Taiwan. How can Taiwan’s friends, partners, and allies push back?

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Russian special forces reportedly walked inside a gas pipeline to strike Ukrainian units from the rear in the Kursk region, as Moscow claimed fresh gains in its push to recapture parts of the border province seized by Kyiv in a shock offensive.

A Ukrainian delegation set to meet with the US team in Saudi Arabia will propose a ceasefire covering the Black Sea and long-range missile strikes, as well as the release of prisoners.

America’s top diplomat has said that he sees promise in Ukraine’s proposal for a partial ceasefire to end the war with Russia, ahead of talks in Saudi Arabia between US and Ukrainian officials later on Tuesday.

The Russian military said Tuesday air defenses overnight shot down 337 Ukrainian drones over 10 Russian regions in what appears to be the biggest Ukrainian drone attack on Russia in three years.

US arms exports to Europe triple, boosted by Ukraine aid in response to Russia’s invasion.

IRAN THREAT/ISRAEL WARS

Syria’s government signs a breakthrough deal with Kurdish-led authority that controls the country’s northeast, including a ceasefire and the merging of the main US-backed force there into the Syrian army.

Israeli aircraft have carried out attacks in Syria’s southern province, in the latest attacks targeting military positions of the former Bashar al-Assad regime.

New satellite images show that scores of people are seeking shelter at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base in Syria from fighting between the new Syrian government and forces loyal to deposed leader Bashar Al-Assad.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

North Korea fired several ballistic missiles into the sea Monday, hours after South Korean and US troops kicked off their large annual combined drills, which the North views as an invasion rehearsal.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Colombia, whose leftist president, Gustavo Petro, is a vocal critic of the US-led war on drugs, has urged the UN to remove coca – the main ingredient in cocaine – from a list of harmful substances.

US MILITARY

America’s eroding airpower. For more than 80 years, a cornerstone of the US military strength has been its unparalleled ability to project power through the air. Washington has the most sophisticated fleet of combat aircraft in the world.

Special Operations Command is pursuing a “Drone in a Box” that aims to give commandos reconfigurable platforms that could serve as unmanned aerial systems or ground robots — depending on the need.

Just trying to subtly drive a wedge…just stupid. There is not climate change. But we do have storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, rain as we always have. The fear mongering needs to end. And as far as too many people in the earth, that idea is pure insanity. The whole population of the earth, standing next to each other would fit in a state 1/2 the size of Texas or less.

NO THEY ARE NOT GOING TOO FAR – For once we have President who cares about the American people and is doing something about the waste and deport illegals is the first step since they have been getting our tax money – more money than I get in SOCIAL SECURITY which is against the laws and the politicians are breaking the US LAWS in the books. I want to see some arrest of the politicians who are treasonous and got to be millionaires on their salaries and they get special 6 figure pensions which is not right while the private sector get social security and these same politician are depleting our SOCIAL SECURITY for illegals. I want their assets seized since they stole the money in the first place in their shell companies.

Environment, climate and weather. How can you tell the difference? Normally, sailors dela with the immediate issues. The long term trend, climate, although is or interest, the job of the military is to deal with what is at hand. How about the environmant. Of course it should be considered when you have a situation to consider it effects on the mission and in situations when it need to be protected. “Climate change” cna be learned from popular liturature and considered by futurists, not soldiers.

The poles are losing some ice, and we have had hurricanes. What does that have to do with cow farts and unleaded gasoline? Absolutely nothing. The planet has been in constant change for millions of years (without our permission), The Man made climate change hoax is the biggest scam foisted upon the public in the history of the country, and thank goodness we have some politicians now that are willing to admit it.

The Trump administration has inherited a multitude of challenges from the Biden administration’s complete lack of ability to contend with any and all issues foreign and domestic for the past four years. Additionally the democrat party’s membership has done everything within its power to turn

No, it does not go too far. However, trying to stretch the leftist fantasy of disastrous global warming, which of course can only be fixed by massive tax increases in the USA, into emergencies that the USCG needs to deal with is really over the top crazy.
