The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – SECDEF Hegseth said Wednesday that NATO membership for Ukraine was unrealistic and suggested that the country should abandon hopes of returning to its pre-2014 borders and prepare for a negotiated settlement with Russia backed up by international troops.

Ukraine’s daunting choice: Trading its land and people for future security. Restoring Ukraine’s economy is the most crucial element in ensuring the country’s very existence as a viable and secure state going forward.

‘Ceasefire’ or no, Ukraine says it still needs weapons. The U.S. and Russian leaders have agreed to “start negotiations immediately” to end the war in Ukraine, Trump said Wednesday after a phone call with Putin—adding that he would “inform” Kyiv of the conversation. But Ukrainian leaders have said that Putin’s broken promises make US military support essential for even a short-term ceasefire.

Several NATO allies stressed on Thursday that Ukraine and Europe must not be cut out of any peace negotiations as SECDEF Hegseth denied that the US is betraying the war-ravaged country.

NATIONAL SECURITY

A senior House Republican is optimistic the US can maintain a power balance between itself, China and Russia through defense technology development that can prevent future war.

Republicans propose at least $100 billion in extra defense spending in the next decade to boost the military’s budget and advance Trump’s agenda.

Ex-Google boss fears AI could be used by terrorists or “rogue states” to “harm innocent people”.

HOMELAND SECURITY

A handful of employees inside the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) focused on countering disinformation and related influence operations have been put on administrative leave.

POLITICS

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth did not request more than $137,000 in repairs and upgrades to military housing at Fort McNair that will become his official residence. The Army undertook the repairs on its own since the more than 100-year-old home had sat vacant for a year and needed security upgrades.

A federal judge on Wednesday removed a key legal hurdle stalling Trump ’s plan to downsize the federal workforce with a deferred resignation program.

NASA’s acting administrator says the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) organization will be examining payments at the agency but that safeguards are in place to prevent any conflicts of interest involving Elon Musk.

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Tulsi Gabbard to be Director of National Intelligence in a 52-48 vote, making Trump’s controversial nominee the nation’s spy chief.

Trump must decide soon if US jeans will still be made in Africa. Wrangler and Levi’s jeans rolling off East African production line are pure Americana, destined for U.S. stores like Walmart and JCPenney.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s longstanding bonhomie with Donald Trump could be tested as the Indian leader kicks off a visit to Washington on Wednesday, eager to avoid tariffs that have been slapped on others and threats of further taxes and imports.

US POWER OVERSEAS

B-52 bombers arrive in England to kick off the US Air Force’s first European bomber deployment of the year as Hegseth visits NATO.

CHINA THREAT

First US Navy crossing of Taiwan Strait of Trump administration ‘sent the wrong signal,’ China says, as a pair of U.S. warships made a rare, two-day trip through the Strait this week.

A People’s Liberation Army (PLAN) surface action group and an amphibious task group made separate transits through the Miyako Strait to enter the Philippine Sea Tuesday.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Russia’s stockpiles of Cold War-era weapons and larger population have allowed it to withstand heavy battlefield losses in Ukraine as the West fails to provide Ukraine the aid needed to mount a counteroffensive, according to a new report.

Based on one key economic metric, Russian defense spending eclipsed all other European countries combined last year and is projected to increase further in 2025, according to a leading UK defense think tank.

Imagery of Ukrainian Air Force F-16s shows the fighters carrying a variety of weapons and other stores, apparently in the course of combat sorties.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

North Korea is dismantling a facility at its Mount Kumgang resort used for hosting meetings between families separated after the Korean War in the latest sign of strained tensions between the two Koreas.

SPACE THREAT

The Space Development Agency is launching a study to look at how its proliferated satellite constellation could support Trump’s proposal for a homeland missile defense shield.

The US Space Force must integrate maneuver as an instrumental component to have the necessary flexibility and adaptability to succeed in an increasingly uncertain operational environment.

So apparently the Trump administration believes that Putin and Russia should be “rewarded” for invading the Ukraine! If this is true, Putin will soon be invading more of his neighbors since it’s apparent that the USA and NATO will do nothing to STOP him!
