On Sunday, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) made it official: a massive port strike is set to kick off Tuesday, threatening operations at critical U.S. ports along the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. If you’re concerned about supply chain disruptions, you’re not alone—this strike could throw a wrench into everything, with potential costs hitting a staggering $5 billion per day.
So, what’s really going on here?
The ILA says they’re striking because of the United States Maritime Alliance’s refusal to address 50 years of unfair wages. After decades of allegedly being exploited, dockworkers appear determined to fight tooth and nail for a fair deal.
But here’s where it gets even more interesting: Unlike most unions, the ILA hasn’t thrown their weight behind Kamala Harris’ campaign.
ILA President Harold Daggett isn’t shy about his frustration with the current administration. He’s made it clear he’s not endorsing Harris and is furious with Biden. In fact, Daggett met with Trump after the July 13 assassination attempt near Butler, Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, what’s Biden doing? If you guessed nothing, you’d be right. Biden is refusing to intervene, hiding behind “collective bargaining” and rejecting any notion of using the Taft-Hartley Act to force a resolution. The lack of action is classic Biden—letting Americans suffer while acting as if his hands are are tied.
The clock is ticking. The strike is set to begin at 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 1, and with over 40% of U.S. imports running through these ports, we’re talking serious consequences. Think higher prices and empty shelves—sound familiar? Remember the supply chain chaos under Biden’s watch during COVID? Well, buckle up, because this could be worse. We’re looking at shortages of everyday products like chocolate, alcohol, fruit and even automobiles. Perishables like bananas, cherries and berries? Expect billions of pounds to rot before they reach your local store.
While it might be too early to say how badly the holiday shopping season will be impacted, one thing’s clear—this is unlikely to go away quickly. The last time we saw a labor dispute like this was back in 2002, and it took six months to get things back to normal.
This strike will hit some of the country’s busiest ports, including Boston, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wilmington, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Mobile, New Orleans and Houston.
So here we are: another crisis, more empty promises from Biden, and the American people caught in the middle. Will Trump step in again to clean up Biden’s mess? It will be interesting how the “fake media” will cover this catastrophe. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are still supporting a brain dead Democrat over Trump. We’ve gone through 4 years of a man who doesn’t know what day it is to a V.P. who can’t put a sentence together and make any sense.
