League For Sportsmen, Law Enforcement & Defense Address Assassination Attempt

[Butler, PA, 07/14/24] – The League for Sportsmen, Law Enforcement & Defense unequivocally
condemns the recent attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, yesterday. This heinous act represents a direct assault not only on an individual but also on the very principles that underpin our democratic society.

Former President Donald Trump was injured in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally yesterday in Butler, Pennsylvania. One attendee at the rally was declared dead at the scene, killed by a stray bullet. Two attendees remain in critical condition after they were admitted to the hospital last night, and the
shooter – identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks – was killed at the scene.

The League of Sportsmen, Law Enforcement & Defense (The League) stands firm in its commitment to defend our rights and freedoms. These inalienable rights, enshrined in the First Amendment, Second Amendment and the entirety of our Bill of Rights are the bedrock of our nation. The cowardly actions of the assassin goes against everything our organization and our nation stands for. We believe in law in order, in the right to life, and in our political system.

“We saw firsthand yesterday how ill-equipped we are to deal with the violence and upheaval at
hand. Violence against Trump is violence against our political process, our nation’s law and order,
and all of the freedoms of liberty that we hold in the highest regard,” said The League’s
President Jim Fotis. “We need to continue to support our law enforcement with better resources
and training, and continue to push legislation that supports our LEOs and get this country back
on track to law and order.”

We call upon all Americans to join us in rejecting violence and upholding the rule of law. The
attempted assassination of a public figure, regardless of political affiliation, is an attack on the
very fabric of our nation. It is imperative that we come together to support our law enforcement
agencies as they work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
