New Poll Shows Where Trump Ranks Among Former Presidents And There’s Bad News For Biden

-

A new Gallup poll of “retrospective job approval” shows where stands among former – but Democrats may not want to celebrate yet.

Among the seven of the last nine presidents, Trump has the second-lowest approval rating among Americans asked to rate former presidents.

Only 46 percent of Americans approved of Trump's job performance, with 56 percent disapproving. Only , who resigned to avoid impeachment, removal and likely criminal conviction, fared worse with 36 percent approval and 65 percent disapproval.

But before Democrats start celebrating, another Gallup poll shows Trump could still return to office in 2025.

It its latest tracking poll of the current president's approval rating, only a Nixonian 37 percent of Americans approve of Biden's job performance, with 59 percent disapproving.

That places Trump's approval 10 points higher than Biden's, and most of a Trump/Biden 2024 election place Trump just barely ahead.  In office Trump averaged just 40 percent approval, which was the second-worst ever recorded to that point, three point ahead of Jimmy Carter and ahead of Biden's current rating.

The “retrospective job approval” poll did not survey Lyndon Johnson and Gerald Ford, who were not elected to the office when they assumed it. Gallup notes “nearly 20 percent of Americans could not offer opinions in the prior survey five years ago.”

Assassinated President John K. Kennedy was the highest-rated at 90 percent approval, with President Ronald Reagan the second-most popular president at 69 percent approval.
