Senate Democrats Contemplate Bringing Elon Musk to Washington

Is the Democratic Party even paying lip service to free speech anymore? According to its critics, which apparently include Elon Musk, the answer is a resounding no.

After Twitter announced it had reached an agreement with the world’s richest man to purchase the social media giant for $44 billion on Monday, liberals reacted with everything from apprehension and outright fear.

Since the buyout, Musk, already a prolific Twitter user, has reiterated his commitment to free speech and continued trolling his easily triggered critics.

As the dust settles, Republicans and conservatives see a surge in followers. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis gained more than 211,000 followers between last Sunday and Wednesday. Over the same period, controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene reported an increase of 107,000 followers.

Meanwhile, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez lost 38,000 followers. Even former President Barack Obama lost 5,000 followers.

When asked by a Bloomberg reporter on Thursday, a powerful Senate Democrat admitted that her party was seriously considering asking Musk to come to Washington to answer questions about the future of Twitter.

As Bloomberg’s Steven T. Dennis explains:

There are no imminent plans for hearings, but, “We’re thinking about it,” Senate Commerce Chair Maria Cantwell said in an interview Thursday.

The Washington state Democrat noted the committee has previously had hearings with former Twitter Inc. Chief executive Jack Dorsey, Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai. They were questioned about a decades-old legal shield that protects social media companies from liability for user-generated content posted on their sites, commonly referred to as Section 230.

Senator Ed Markey, a member of the Commerce Committee who has called for new laws regulating large tech companies, said that a hearing with Musk was necessary given Twitter’s importance.

“It’s a technology which is central to democracy and our economy and it is important for the representatives of the American people to hear what the new owners intend on using that technology to accomplish,” the Massachusetts Democrat said in an interview. “We have to understand the censorship or lack thereof, content moderation or not, that is going to be the policy for the new owner.”

Musk hasn’t commented on the news or if he’s willing to testify.

The revelation follows the Biden administration’s outrageous decision to establish a Big Brother-esque “disinformation” board. Even though the White House crony picked to run it spread lies about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

It will be great to watch him tell them no, I don’t think so. These liberal drones, who will hopefully be tossed out in the street after the November elections, are way out of their league.

What an absolute crock that the democrat senators even think they have right to call Musk in!
They are clueless and must be routed in November en masse!

All of a sudden Ed markey wants new laws regulating big tech. Astonishing.
