PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – The Space Force’s new “capstone” doctrine puts into action the two-year campaign to pivot from the service’s traditional mission of providing support to the rest of the military toward waging war “in, from and to space.”
“Space is a warfighting domain, not a collection of supporting activities. In conflict, space will be a contested environment. We are the military service dedicated to fighting in it.
We do not merely provide support functions — we also employ military force to achieve space superiority in order to ensure our freedom of maneuver,” Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman stresses in his forward to Space Force Doctrine Document 1 (SFDD-1), released today.
“It is our job to organize, train, and equip space forces, but we are also responsible for conducting warfighting operations in space,” he adds. “Guardians are, and always will be, warfighters.”

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:
NATIONAL SECURITY
Following the firing of Gen. Timothy Haugh, who led the NSA and US Cyber Command, lawmakers criticized the Trump administration, for the decision to let him go and for not providing a reason, saying it “sets back” U.S. military and intel operations, makes America “less safe.”
‘Golden Dome’: Who and what should it defend? In January Trump ordered DOD to develop the next-generation missile defense shield inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome.

PENTAGON WOKE WATCH
US POWER OVERSEAS
Glaring failures in drone attack in Jordan that killed three US soldiers in Jordan last year. The attack was most likely preventable, according to a military investigation that determined that numerous failures — from complacency and indecisiveness to outright negligence — contributed to the deadly attack.
CHINA THREAT
Shenyang Aircraft Corporation’s tailless stealth fighter has appeared in new photos that offer additional insights into its exotic design. Unofficially dubbed the ‘J-50,’ it is one of two Chinese tailless heavy next-generation fighter designs that emerged in December.
RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR
A cockpit video has emerged showing a very close encounter between a Russian Su-35 Flanker-E and an Alaska-based US Air Force F-35A Joint Strike Fighter. A variant of the Russian Tu-95 Bear bomber is also seen in the footage.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy met the leaders of the UK and French armed forces in Kyiv to discuss the potential deployment of a multinational force to Ukraine, despite Trump’s reluctance to provide US security guarantees.
Satellite imagery shows work on the first of Russia’s big-deck amphibious assault ships, also known as the Ivan Rogov class, is continuing at a shipyard on the occupied Crimean Peninsula. Ukrainian forces have targeted the Zaliv yard in the past, severely damaging at least one warship.
Thousands of Ukrainian civilians are still held by Russia with uncertain hope of release.
IRAN THREAT/MIDEAST
US MILITARY
AC-130J Ghostrider gunship launches Black Arrow (Small Cruise Missile) in new video. The Black Arrow, intended to carry a range of different payloads, and not just a kinetic warhead, arrives as DOD is looking at lower-cost weapons that can be readily produced at scale need in future conflicts.
The Navy needs a high/low mix of manned and unmanned platforms. The Navy will always need larger ships, and that an “all or nothing” approach relying only on unmanned vessels simply won’t work.
